Pam
We love our main four transferable points types of credit cards. Chase Ultimate Rewards, American Express Membership Rewards, Citi ThankYou Points, and Capital One Venture Miles are all great ways to get free vacations. Can each of these transferable point credit cards get us to Hawaii? Let’s check it out! Let’s see how many different ways we can get to Maui. I am writing about 7 ways to Maui with transferable points but I know you can find more! Note: credit card redemptions and flight offers were correct at the time of publishing this post but may have changed.
We’ve used Ultimate Rewards multiple times to transfer to United and Southwest to get us to Maui. But let’s look at the Chase Ultimate Reward Partners and find one we haven’t used before. The Chase Sapphire Preferred card is our favorite beginner card to earn Ultimate Rewards. These are the Chase travel partners:
Virgin Atlantic is not a flight I’ve tried to transfer to for a Hawaii flight. Although you won’t be flying Virgin Atlantic, you can get a Delta flight through them. Often, when booking Virgin Atlantic for a Delta flight, it will be cheaper than if you booked with Delta, particularly to Europe.
Let’s check out another Chase partner, British Airways, and see if we can book an American Airlines flight through them. Even though AA is not a partner with Chase, it is a partner with BA so we have that roundabout way of booking on AA. This is similar to our previous example of booking a Delta Flight even though it is not a travel partner of Chase because it is a partner of Virgin Atlantic. Clear as mud, right?
I was able to find flights right away on these two transfer partners. However, the cost was slightly more than it would be on United and Southwest, and the flight times were longer. But, depending on where you live, it could work for you.
American Express Membership Rewards is another one of our favorite transferable points. Let’s see what a couple of American Express Membership Rewards travel partners can do in getting us to Maui. In the past, I’ve transferred Membership Rewards to Delta to fly to Maui. I want to try a couple of other ways today. The American Express Gold Card is a good way to get American Express Membership Rewards. AMEX travel partners include:
Hawaiian Airlines is an obvious choice to get to Hawaii and we can transfer to them with our American Express Membership Rewards. 40,000 roundtrip is a good price for a trip to Hawaii. Usually, a roundtrip price from the mainland is 45,000.
Now let’s try a different transfer partner. How about Air Canada? Here’s a flight from Chicago to Maui. We transferred AMEX points to Air Canada and booked a flight that will be on United Airlines.
I just love that it is so easy to find a lot of different options on so many travel partners. Round trip this flight is 45K which is an average price for flying to Maui.
Citi ThankYou Points are the third type of transferable points we are going to look at. Our favorite card from CitiBank is the Citi Premier Credit Card. Here are their travel partners:
Let’s check out Avianca Airlines for a flight to Hawaii leaving from Houston. There were several flights available transferring Citi ThankYou Points to Avianca and then booking a flight. 7 ways to Maui using transfer partners is not proving difficult at all.
Last, but not least, let’s look at our final type of transferable points credit card, Capital One Venture Miles. They have several transfer partners that duplicate some of the others. We particularly like the Capital One Venture X Credit Card to earn these miles.
Turkish Airlines has undoubtedly the best award redemption to Hawaii from the mainland. 15,000 miles roundtrip. Here’s the catch. It’s not easy to find. Read my complete tutorial here. And then plan on looking hard. Fingers crossed that you find some availability!! If you do, it is an amazing way to book with Venture One Miles or Citi ThankYou Points. This may be the last of the 7 ways to Maui with transfer partners but it is probably the cheapest deal you will ever find!
Having one of these transferable points credit cards gives you so many options to get to Hawaii. We often think about just using our airline-branded credit cards to get there. They are the simplest, easiest ways. But as you’ve seen in this article, there is a myriad of other ways to get to Hawaii. Start thinking outside of the box and let those transfer partners work for you! Which one of our 7 ways to Maui with transfer partners are you booking next time?
