Reader Success Story to London and Edinburgh

Michelle sends us her reader success story to London and Edinburgh. We love both cities, so we can’t wait to hear how she did it!

Michelle’s Story

I started leveraging credit card welcome offers to redeem flights and hotels in 2021 when my best friend showed my husband and me how to navigate this points and miles world to book a family trip to France with them. At the time, I remember feeling incredibly lucky that I got to take my kids to Europe at such a young age, and from that point forward, I was hooked.

Michelle Finds Travel Mom Squad

Fast forward two years, and my discovery of the Points Talk With The Travel Mom Squad podcast, blog, and Facebook Group helped me to take my knowledge and excitement for this hobby to the next level. I have learned so much about utilizing business cards, a player-two strategy, referrals, and, of course, I’ve gotten more than enough ideas for travel inspiration. Now that I’m more confident with how this works, I have had so many points and miles victories that I can share with you!

Booking London and Edinburg on Points and Miles

My most recent success story covered a ten-day trip to London and Edinburgh with my husband and kids for the holiday break later this year! We’ll visit the Christmas Markets, see some of my favorite sites in London, take my kids on the Harry Potter tour (shhh, this is a surprise!), and experience a new country together, as my kids and I have never been to Scotland.  The best part about planning this adventure is that everything from flights to our hotels was covered by points and miles, including a bucket-list stay at the Schloss Roxburghe Hotel! To say we are excited is an understatement.

I utilized two welcome offers and two referral bonuses to make this upcoming adventure happen. While the bonuses may not have had a massive redemption value, they will afford my family the chance to take what would have been an almost $10k vacation if we had paid cash—something we NEVER could have afforded to do.

In London, we are staying at Hyatt Place London City East (and one night at Hyatt Place Heathrow before our flight). In Edinburgh, we are staying at the Holiday Inn City Centre. It is a rare instance where booking through the portal was cheaper!

Edinburgh Castle will definitely be one of this family’s must-see sites!

Trips Taken This Year

I also promised each of my kids a one-on-one trip this year. I just spent three days with my 10-year-old in Washington, D.C., booked almost entirely on points and miles. He is my history lover, and seeing the sights through his eyes for the first time was so special. For this trip, we stayed at the Grand Hyatt, conveniently located near all the sites. My friend above even gifted us a Guest of Honor stay, which was a fantastic gift.

Next week, we’ll head to San Diego and LA as a family, a trip also booked on points and miles. Later this year, I’ll have my solo trip with my daughter. She’s my more adventurous, thrill-seeking kid, so she requested a trip to Disney, where we’ll stay at the Grand Cypress Resort.

Other Trips Taken

Last year, I took them on a last-minute trip to Universal and covered our hotel costs, staying at the Hyatt Place across from the park. I also covered a trip to Phoenix, Sedona, and the Grand Canyon. While these aren’t the most exotic or glamorous trips, providing these opportunities and creating great memories with my kids means everything to me! This hobby makes memory-making possible!

Bottom Line

Thanks for your reader success story to London and Edinburgh – we can’t wait to hear more about it. We completely agree that a trip doesn’t have to be fancy or luxurious to be special. Making memories is priceless.
