Enhanced Travel Protection on Chase Sapphire Reserve®

Pam

While we often recommend the card_name as a beginner-friendly first card for those seeking credit card points and miles, there is a definite time when the card_name might work best. In fact, I just applied for it after years of holding the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card. The enhanced travel protection on the Chase Sapphire Reserve® makes it a compelling card for many people.

Auto Rental Coverage

Decline the rental company’s collision insurance and charge the entire rental cost to your card. Coverage is primary and provides reimbursement up to $75,000 for theft and collision damage for most rental vehicles in the U.S. and abroad. Just be sure not to buy the rental coverage and think you have double coverage, as I once did 🤦‍♀️. That voided my card coverage. (Exception: For New York residents who have personal auto insurance for their own vehicles, the coverage on this card is secondary to that for rentals inside the U.S.)

Trip Cancellation and Interruption Insurance

Enjoy peace of mind knowing that if your trip is canceled or cut short because of illness, severe weather, or other covered reasons, you’re protected with reimbursement of up to $10,000 per traveler and up to $20,000 per trip for prepaid, non-refundable costs, such as flights, tours, and hotels.

Travel Accident Insurance

When you book your flight, bus, train, or cruise with your card, you’re automatically protected with up to $1,000,000 in travel accident insurance for accidental death or dismemberment.

Trip Delay Reimbursement

If your flight, train, bus, or cruise is delayed more than 6 hours or requires an overnight stay, you can relax knowing you’re covered for up to $500 per traveler to help with meals, lodging, and other unreimbursed expenses. I once had a canceled flight, and being able to book a hotel without having to pay for it definitely took the sting out of the situation.

Travel and Emergency Assistance

Suppose the unexpected happens while you’re traveling. In that case, you can count on 24/7 assistance with medical and legal referrals, plus access to a range of travel and emergency support services—so you’re never alone on your journey. (Any costs for goods or services received are your responsibility.)

Lost Luggage Reimbursement and Baggage Delay Insurance

Lost luggage? No problem! This has actually happened to me twice, and what a pain it is! Travel with confidence knowing you’re covered for up to $3,000 per traveler to repair or replace checked or carry-on baggage if it’s lost, damaged, or stolen during your trip. This benefit is also limited to $2,000 per bag and up to $10,000 total for all covered travelers per trip.

Your benefits also include reimbursement up to $100 a day for up to five days for essential purchases, such as toiletries and clothing, when baggage is delayed for more than six hours. You can turn lemons into lemonade with all those new clothes!

Emergency Evacuation and Transportation

Should you or a covered traveler become ill or injured while 100 miles or more from home, you’ll have the support you need with emergency medical services and transportation covered up to $100,000—helping you get to safety and care when it matters most.

Emergency Medical and Dental

Suppose you or an immediate family member falls ill or gets injured while traveling 100 miles or more from home. In that case, you can be reimbursed up to $2,500 for medical expenses, with just a $50 deductible—helping you focus on recovery, not bills.

Roadside Assistance

If you encounter a roadside emergency, help is just a call away—whether you need a tow, battery jump, tire change, locksmith service, or gas. Coverage is up to $50 per incident, up to 4 times a year so that you can get back on the road with ease.

A credit card that offers roadside assistance when traveling can be helpful.

These benefits are available when you use your card. Restrictions, limitations and exclusions apply.

Bottom Line

Enhanced travel protection on the Chase Sapphire Reserve® makes it one of the best credit cards for covering travel setbacks compared to any other card. This will be the card that we use more often to book travel in the future, as peace of mind when traveling is priceless.
