All About the Mesa Homeowners Card

Pam

I must admit that this credit card has flown under our radar for some time. However, with mortgages comprising a considerable portion of our spending and a loyal student discussing the Mesa Homeowners Card at our recent meetup, we decided to take a closer look at it. Here’s what I found out:

Although the Mesa Homeowners Card is primarily designed for home expenses, it can also serve as a tool for travel, and let’s get real—that is what we are after! Every purchase you make—whether it’s groceries, utilities, or a home improvement project—can earn points that go toward your next getaway.

Earning Power

Earn 1 Point per Dollar Spent on Your Mortgage Payment

With the Mesa Homeowners Card, you earn 1 point per dollar spent on your monthly mortgage payment when you spend $1,000 in eligible purchases per statement cycle. You don’t use the card itself to pay your mortgage payment. But when you use the card to spend at least $1,000 per statement cycle, Mesa gives you points equal to what your mortgage payment is, at 1 point per dollar spent.

Earn 3 Points per Dollar Spent in Home & Family Categories

Daycare is another significant monthly expense for many families. With the Mesa Homeowners Card, you earn 3 points per dollar spent on all daycare payments. This is really a unique spending opportunity! Nobody else gives you credit for this significant spend!

You’ll also earn 3 points per dollar on eligible home-related spend, from furniture and decor to utilities and maintenance. The costs of keeping your home and family running add up quickly, but now every dollar you put toward your household works harder for you.

Getting rewarded for day care is unique to this card!

Redemptions

One of the easiest ways to leverage your points is by redeeming them for flights and hotel stays. Points can often be transferred to travel partners or used directly through the card’s travel portal. This means that everyday spending around your home can help fund airline tickets, hotel stays, or even family vacation packages.

Strategic redemption is key. Not all redemptions provide the same value, and transferring points to airline or hotel partners can often stretch your rewards further than using them for statement credits or cash back. Planning ensures that your points are working as hard as possible when it comes to booking trips.

Complementing Other Reward Programs

The Mesa Homeowners Card can also complement other rewards programs. For example, while you’re earning points on home-related purchases, you might use a travel-focused card for welcome offers, flight upgrades, or hotel perks. This combination maximizes the benefits of both cards, helping to fund more of your family adventures.

Finally, don’t forget that travel isn’t just flights and hotels. Many related expenses—car rentals, excursions, or even cruise add-ons—can be paid with the Mesa Homeowners Card. Even if you can’t cover the entire trip with points, every dollar you spend on these travel purchases earns rewards toward future getaways.

Transferring Points

Transferring points is straightforward. Once logged into your Mesa account, you can select your travel partner, enter the number of points to transfer, and confirm. Transfers usually happen almost instantly, allowing you to book your travel without delay.

How to Use Mesa Points for Travel: Step-by-Step

Using your Mesa Points for travel might sound complicated, but it can be surprisingly simple once you know the process. Here’s a practical example for booking a flight and a hotel:

Step 1: Choose Your Travel Partner
Let’s say you want to fly to Paris. You check which airline partners have award seats available and see that Air Canada Aeroplan offers the flights you need.

Step 2: Transfer Points
Log in to your Mesa account, navigate to the “Rewards” or “Transfer” section, and select Air Canada Aeroplan as your transfer partner. Enter the number of points you want to transfer—typically in increments of 1,000—and confirm. Most transfers happen instantly, so your points are ready to use right away.

Step 3: Book Your Flight
Once the points are in your Aeroplan account, go to the airline’s booking portal and search for your award flights. Use your points to cover as much of the ticket as possible. Even if you don’t have enough points for the full cost, you can combine points and cash to secure your tickets.

Step 4: Redeem Points for Hotel Stays
For accommodations, you might transfer points to Accor Live Limitless. Check for available rooms at your destination, and use your points to cover part or all of your stay. If you don’t have enough points, pay the remainder with cash while continuing to earn rewards on everyday purchases.

Step 5: Enjoy Your Trip
With strategic transfers and smart redemptions, everyday spending around your home—like groceries, utilities, and home improvement—has helped fund your flight and hotel. You’ve effectively turned your routine expenses into a memorable family adventure.

Bottom Line

There are certain items we have to pay for anyway. A mortgage is one of those items, so it makes sense to get rewarded for that spend and lessen the pain a little. The Mesa Homeowners Card may be the perfect choice for you. Just remember that it will take a 5/24 spot, so keep that in mind.
