Pam
This trip is often requested by our readers and is quite doable. In these simple guides, I won’t go over every flight or hotel option but will pick one option for each, thereby decreasing that analysis paralysis we all run into.
The hardest part of this plan is deciding what airport to fly out of, so I will generally pick between Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, and New York City for convenience. I’ll try to use some different hotel options occasionally, but my bias for Hyatt hotels offering outsized value will definitely show.
It’s hard to ignore AirFrance as the airline of choice to go to Paris. However, they do have higher surcharges. But with a direct flight from Chicago – Paris and only needing to use 15,000 KrisFlyer miles, I’m happy to pay that $67 fee in April. Don’t live in Chicago? Consider positioning or checking from a city near you. All four of the major currencies transfer to AirFrance, so that means you have many options. A family of four could possibly fly to Paris for about 120,000 miles – that is only one or two credit card sign-ups, depending on what cards you pick!
The hotel I would stay at with a family of four would be the Hyatt Regency Paris Étoile. Many rooms have an amazing view of the Eiffel Tower (call ahead and plead your case for one). A room for 2 can be found for 12,000 points, but you will need two rooms or a suite (24K). I think you can do Paris and see most of the sites in 3-4 days, so count on needing 100K Chase Ultimate Rewards that you transfer into Hyatt points. We have a post on Paris that has a nice itinerary and also a Paris post that talks about our recent trip there.
Here are the cards that you could get to make this trip happen. If you can get a business card, it will be easier to get more Ultimate Rewards. Don’t forget to refer your Player 2 to get referral bonuses!
Family Vacation Fridays continue with this family trip to Paris. Obviously, there are many, many flights and hotels that will work for this trip. This is just an idea to get you started – let us know if you find this useful!

When I couldn’t find availability on Hyatt for a room for 2 adults and 2 children, I started searching for 2 people and then contacted the hotel by email asking for any option to include kids. I went through this in November. I reached out to several Hyatts in Paris, each one gave me a different answer. We ended up at the Hyatt Paris Madeleine– paid 25k points/night, and they told me they would upgrade us to a room with a sofa bed for an extra 70Euros per night to accomodate our kids (paid at the hotel). This worked out perfectly for us (and they only charged us for 2 nights instead of 3). The room was tight but their service and the rooms were impeccable.
