Girl’s Trip to Copenhagen on Points

Pam

Alex and I added a trip to Copenhagen, using points, of course, to our Amsterdam trip. Because Copenhagen is so close to Amsterdam, it was the perfect addition. A girl’s trip to Copenhagen is a great addition to any European trip! Once I get to Europe, I tend to try and stretch out my adventures to see more. So many places, so little time is my motto!

Flights

We flew to London to visit my daughter, who lives there first.  Of course, we used miles and traveled in business class. If you want to travel directly to Copenhagen, here are some suggestions:

  • United Airlines from most U.S. cities to Copenhagen is about 90,000 miles in business class one-way and 60,000 miles in economy class round-trip.
  • Delta Airlines from San Francisco can be an option if you find a flash sale.
  • American Airlines from most U.S. cities is 60,000 round trip in economy class.

If you are traveling in a business class, be sure to use the airport lounge.  You may have a credit card that gives you airport lounge access, too, so take advantage of that perk!

I flew home from Copenhagen using 70,000 United Miles for business class seats. I would probably have to pay more now.

Where to Stay

The most beautiful part of Copenhagen is Nyhavn, where you see the beautiful colored buildings and ships in the canals. We could have used points to stay in Copenhagen, but we fell in love with this hotel, the 71 Nyhavn, and had to stay there. Splitting the bill with someone makes it affordable. Also, you don’t mind spending a little on the hotel when you use points to fly.

We loved the location, the style of the room, and the breakfast that was included. It was very farm-to-table, and we still talk about it!

Our hotel room at 71 Nyhavn was so cozy and cute!

You wouldn’t believe the great breakfasts we had here!

Hyatt, Marriott, and IHG all have hotels in Copenhagen. Here are some other possibilities of where to stay with points:

Crowne Plaza Copenhagen

You could stay here for only 35,000 points a night. IHG is one of my favorite hotel credit cards; you can learn why here.

This room in Copenhagen will only cost 35,000 IHG points on your girl’s trip!

Marriott Hotel

Another possibility for your lodging on your Copenhagen girl’s trip (or any trip) is this Copenhagen Marriott Hotel. It will range from 40,000 – 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy Rewards depending on when you go.

This Marriott hotel is another good option in Copenhagen with points.

Hyatt Hotels

There are some Mr. and Smith Hotels that Hyatt has partnered with and they weren’t too expensive. I found nights for under 20K Hyatt points.

Things to Do in Copenhagen

Free Walking Tour

I am a huge fan of walking tours the first day I travel to a city. And free is always good! I love to hear the history of the city and learn from a local about the top attractions. You just tip them about $10 a person (my recommendation), and it’s a great way to start your trip.

Visit the Little Mermaid Statue

Much tinier than you imagine, this statue is one of Copenhagen’s most popular tourist attractions. It is inspired by Hans Christian Anderson’s story of the mermaid who gives up everything to be united with her human prince on land.

Tivoli Gardens

Tivoli Gardens is one of the world’s most famous amusement parks and a fun place to visit. The rides are amazing, and there are plenty of fun places to eat there too!

Nyhavn

The most picturesque area of Copenhagen is the Nyhavn neighborhood. We stayed there, and every day we enjoyed the beauty and fun atmosphere. It has many restaurants, places to buy waffles, and a general fun vibe! Do not miss it!

Shop or Stroll Stroget

If you like to shop, you will love this pedestrian-only street! It is lined with tons of shopping and is very popular in Copenhagen.

Visit the National Museum

Alex and I had a great afternoon visiting this museum. At the time, it had a really cool exhibit about Vikings. We also enjoyed learning more about the Danes. The Viking exhibition was especially interesting since I watched the History Channel series. And the chocolate chip cookies at the restaurant there are really good!

Visit a Castle

The two main castles in Copenhagen are the Rosenborg Castle and the Christiansborg Castle.

Where to Eat

We weren’t there too long to eat, but these were some great choices:

Bottom Line

You don’t need much time in Copenhagen – just a couple of days. It is a perfect add-on from another European country. You will enjoy the vibe of Copenhagen, called hygge. It means cozy or comfortable, which perfectly describes this wonderful city.
