Grand Hyatt Scottsdale Review

Megan

The Grand Hyatt Scottsdale just got a serious upgrade. After a $115 million renovation and rebranding, this Arizona resort is practically a brand-new hotel. I had the chance to check it out over President’s Day week with my daughters and Jess was there with her family over Easter weekend.

Funny enough, Alex was there over President’s Day Weekend in 2022, while it was still the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale, so February seems to be a perfect time to take a break from the cold and snow by visiting sunny Scottsdale. Keep reading to hear about all the great updates Jess experienced on her trip and I experienced on my trip and what to expect when visiting Grand Hyatt Scottsdale.

Grand Hyatt Scottsdale Overview

I was traveling solo with my three daughters and found navigating the airport, renting a car, and getting to the hotel rather straightforward. At check-in, the girls were handed cute welcome gift bags that included a cactus stuffed animal, a children’s book about cactuses, and some prickly-pear-flavored cotton candy. It was such a sweet, thoughtful touch. I was also welcomed with a prickly pear margarita, which definitely was welcomed after a long travel day from New York.

The Grand Hyatt Scottsdale is a Category 6 Hyatt, so award nights are 21k off-peak, 25k standard, and 29k for peak nights. I booked three peak nights at 29,000 points each, using 87,000 points total. Both Jess and I flew Southwest to get our family to Phoenix, then picked up rental cars to head to Scottsdale.

Valet parking at the hotel is $38 per night and self-parking is $30 per night. The self-parking lot is just a few extra steps from the valet, so it was very easy to park and get ourselves into the hotel.

GH Scottsdale Rooms

Jess used a Suite Upgrade Award to upgrade her family to a Fountain Court Suite and it was huge. Their suite had a full king bedroom, a separate living room with a sleeper sofa, and even a fold-out chair in the bedroom that became a single bed—plus two full bathrooms and two balconies.

I booked a standard two-queen room and then applied a Guest of Honor award. We were upgraded to a two-queen mountain view room. We had a huge balcony and great views over the pool, with the mountains in the background. The staff tried to get me an even better upgrade at check-in, but the only option was on the ground floor. Since I was traveling solo with three kids, I chose to stick with the higher floor.

The New Club Lounge

The club lounge just reopened in February 2025 and it’s small, but in the warm weather they open the big doors to add outdoor seating options, which are great—and there’s even a fire pit.

Breakfast is served from 6:30-9:30 a.m., appetizers from 5-7 p.m., and dessert from 7-8 p.m. (with the lounge closing at 8). The breakfast was enough for us to get our day started, but the evening appetizers were certainly not enough for a meal.

Pro tip: The hotel will honor Club Access Awards, but only if space allows, so it’s worth checking as far in advance as possible.

Resort Amenities

Ten pools. Yes, ten! One has a three-story waterslide. There’s a beach-style pool for the kids and a separate adults-only pool if you need some quiet. Floats and pool toys are provided, which is a small touch that goes a long way.

Beyond the pools, the property has a putting green, ping pong, life-sized checkers, a giant Connect Four game, and a rock climbing wall (for an extra fee).

The waterslide is the same as when Alex visited in 2022

There are also tennis courts, a spa, a fitness center, and a golf course. Friday evenings are fun at the resort because they have a birds of prey bird show. They had a bald eagle and an owl!

GH Scottsdale Dining

There are several dining options across the property. Tiki Taka brings a fusion of Japanese sushi and Spanish tapas. La Zozzona leans into its Italian-American roots with flair. For laid-back nights, the Grand Vista Lounge has craft cocktails with desert views, while Mesa Centrale delivers grilled American fare with a Southwest twist. And when you’re poolside, Sandbar offers foods like burgers and fish tacos without missing a beat.

Jess splurged one night at Richard Blais’s La Zozzona. Pricey? Yes. Worth it? Also yes. I grabbed takeout from the Sandbar one evening, but we mostly used the lounge for breakfast and then ate out in town during the day. There are tons of great restaurants and fun touristy things to do around Scottsdale.

What This Hotel Missed

While I didn’t notice this issue because our stay was over a  Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday span, there is live music from Thursday through Saturday. This might be a draw for some, but it was way too loud for Jess. Soundproofing in general isn’t great; we could hear hallway chatter and doors slamming more than we’d like.

Bottom Line

Despite the noise issues, the revamped Grand Hyatt Scottsdale is a beautiful resort. While I’m sure it is busy with families over the school breaks and peak travel season, this resort would be perfect for both family vacations and adults-only trips. Overall, my kids voted Grand Hyatt Scottsdale higher than Hyatt Regency Maui. In my opinion, that is a HUGE compliment. I’d just be sure to pack some earplugs if you’re a light sleeper and traveling Thursday through Saturday.
