How to Transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards® to Airline and Hotel Partners

Alex

It’s no secret that Chase Ultimate Rewards® are my favorite points currency! My favorite way to use them is to transfer Ultimate Rewards to one of their many airline or hotel partners. In order to do so, you have to hold one of these three cards:

Step 1:

Log into your account by visiting the Chase Ultimate Rewards homepage.

Step 2:

After logging in, you will see this screen with all your Ultimate Rewards earning cards listed. If necessary, combine points between your cards. Afterward, choose the card with the points you want to transfer and hit “redeem.”

Step 3:

This is the screen that will pop up. Note that the “reward details” tab has a pulldown screen. That is where you go to combine points or transfer points.

Step 4:

Click the “ways to use points” section and a screen pops up with various ways to use your points. Most are not a good value. Scroll down until you find this section, and hit the “transfer points” button.

Step 5:

The list of all the transfer partners will pop up now. We love to transfer our Ultimate Rewards to Hyatt, so we are going to scroll down till we find that transfer partner.

Step 6:

Hit the arrow to the right of Hyatt, and this screen will appear, where you will click “transfer points.”

Step 7:

Next, enter the recipient and the member ID. You can only transfer to loyalty accounts that belong to you or an authorized user on your credit card account. If you need to transfer points to a spouse’s loyalty account and they are not an authorized user, then you will want to transfer points into their Ultimate Reward account by combining points.

Step 8:

Now, you will enter the number of points you want to transfer. Points must be transferred in increments of 1,000.

Step 9:

On the next page, you will see where you can confirm the transfer. If everything looks good, then go ahead and submit the transfer! Transfers, except transfers to IHG, Marriott, and Singapore Airlines will usually appear in your account almost immediately. Those will take about 1-2 days. Lastly, ensure your flight or hotel is available before transferring your points. Point transfers are final! They cannot be moved back into your Ultimate Rewards account.

Bottom Line

The ability to transfer Ultimate Rewards to airline or hotel partners makes it easier to find good redemptions. The flexibility of transferring points instead of using them in the travel portal will give you more options. Transfers are one-way transfers. Never, ever transfer without finding availability with the partner first.

This was very helpful. Just transfered 20 points from Chase to Marriott with the 50% bonus. Booking a room that cost over $500 a night with my 20K points. Feels great. My husband is impressed, which feels good after he thought I was nuts after I just applied for my third new credit card this year.

Hoping to get to Ziva Cancun so will keep track of the 50% bonus deadline!

Hi, is it still possible to transfer points? We went through the steps and don’t see the transfer to travel partners option.

    Thanks!

Hi there! I’ve been using your resources to learn more about traveling with points in hopes of booking my husband and me a ten-year anniversary trip to Mexico – your website is so helpful! I just got my signup bonus from Chase for the Sapphire Preferred card and have a question about transferring points as you describe here – mainly, what is the benefit of doing that instead of booking the travel through the Chase rewards portal? Do you just get better benefits over time if you use the hotel’s reward program instead?

    Thanks so much!

    Hello ,
My husband got a SUB of 80k for chase sapphire , and I have few pints with chase freedom . My question is can we combine these points to my chase freedom and transfer combined points to travel partners ? Airline / resort ?
    Thanks

    • Pam says:

You cannot transfer to partners from Chase Freedom. However, you can transfer your points to his CSP, and then transfer to partners.

Hi I still have the same question as Anna stated abovd.
Have the bonus from Chase for me Sapphire Preferred card and have a question about transferring points as you describe here – mainly, what is the benefit of doing that instead of booking the travel through the Chase rewards portal? Do you
just get better benefits over time if you

    • Pam says:

Usually, it is a better use of points to transfer to partners. Not always though, especially if you want to stay at a hotel that you can’t transfer to. Looking at both – transfer partners and the portal and weighing out the differences can be worthwhile. We usually use our Ultimate Rewards for transferring to Hyatt so that is what works for you. You don’t get any benefits from the hotel by transferring, it just works for most people to transfer to Hyatt, Southwest, and United usually.
