Earlier this week, we talked about unsexy points and miles redemptions. We also love all of our family trips that aren’t luxury stays. But there’s yet another way we love to travel—living the bougie life on points and miles. (🙋🏻♀️) Never, ever did I imagine that I could travel in business class or first class and stay in luxury hotels most of the time that I travel. Credit card points and miles make the unthinkable a possibility and I’m here for the bougie life. Here are some of our favorite “bougie life” experiences that points and miles have made possible:
Having an entire room to yourself on a plane? Now that is bougie! My experience in a Singapore Suite was certainly one of my bougiest travel moments ever. Having a huge chair to sit in, a separate bed, a huge television, caviar as an appetizer, and the biggest enclosed room was a dream! Yes, I paid 143K miles for this experience, but it was 💯 worth it in every way.
My second favorite flight was my Etihad Apartments first-class flight from London to Abu Dhabi. This flight was only 65K miles (booked through Air Canada), which is astonishing! Again, I had my own room (narrower but amazing), caviar, a separate bed, huge bathrooms, and superb service. I would LOVE to do this flight again.
The hotel that has most made me feel like I am living my best life is the Grand Hotel Victoria Concept and Spa in Lake Como. I love the location, but the service here makes me feel the most bougie. I’m there in my athleisure wear, rubbing elbows with everyone in their Italian designer clothes 😜! I’ve stayed here twice, and it is an absolute dream!
Hello! Shower in the sky! I’m sure that each of us would gladly repeat this experience. Alex was the only one who booked it outright as a first-class seat. Jess and I upgraded to Emirates first class after booking business-class seats. Eating on demand with superb catering, huge bathrooms with a shower, amazing service, a bar in the back, and the best treats and amenities combine to make this one of our favorite experiences with points and miles!
Jess’s favorite hotel was the Park Hyatt Sydney. It was a major bucket list stay for her! Views of the Opera House and the best Globalist breakfast made it a spectacular stay, which included a visit to Melbourne afterward for her and Ella.
Alex picks her flights on Qatar Qsuites and Emirates first class flight as the ones that made her felt like she was living her bougie life. Seriously, it is astounding that you can book these flights with miles and points and pay just the taxes and fees for them.
Staying in an overwater bungalow in the Maldives was an experience Alex and her husband, Mitch, couldn’t imagine paying for. Luckily, they didn’t have to! Credit card points and miles gave them priceless memories they hope to recreate in the future.
Megan’s bougie hotel stays were at the Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme with her sister and sister-in-law for a Christmas market trip and a couple of days at the Alila Ventana Big Sur in conjunction with a kid-free trip to San Francisco. Megan says she’s not much of a “relaxing trip” kinda person, but she would totally go back to the Alila for two or three days again. She said both places are places she could never have stayed at without points.
Megan’s bougiest flight has been flying her whole family of five in business class on KLM coming home from Europe this summer. And she’s going to be doing it again coming home from Croatia for spring break! Five people in business class—those kids won’t want to go back to economy!
We love credit card points and miles for normal travel and family travel. However, living the bougie life with points and miles is a special experience – one that we never take for granted. What is your favorite bougie travel experience?
