Park Hyatt Auckland Review

Pam

I love Park Hyatts. They are the gem of the Hyatt hotel brand, and the Park Hyatt Auckland is no exception. This was the first hotel we stayed at on our recent trip to New Zealand, and I am already plotting a return visit. Here is my Park Hyatt Auckland review.

Location of the Park Hyatt Auckland

One of my favorite parts of this hotel was its location in Viaduct Harbor. It is located right on the waterfront with breathtaking views of downtown Auckland and some pretty spectacular yachts. You can quickly walk to most downtown destinations, including restaurants, the ferry, and shopping. There is a footbridge that connects Viaduct Harbor to the CBD (Central Business District) of Auckland. Occasionally, it opens to let large yachts pass through it.

The hotel is about 30 minutes from Auckland Airport. We were there for Auckland Day on January 29, 2025, and enjoyed the celebrations, which included watching dragon boat races—seriously, it was so fun!

Award Redemption

The Park Hyatt Auckland is a Category 6 hotel, and I paid 29K points per night for two nights here. This hotel could be in a higher category for how beautiful and luxurious it is. The cash price was about $435 per night in USD.

Check-in

We were warmly greeted on check-in and told that it was a public holiday and they were full. Sadly, we didn’t get a huge upgrade because of this. Additionally, public holidays come with a 15% surcharge at restaurants, including at the hotel.

Because we are Globalists, we had complimentary valet parking. Our luggage was taken to our room quickly and everyone, from the check-in people to the valet to the restaurant staff, could not have been nicer or more accommodating.

The lobby and check-in area were beautiful.

Our Room

Our room, despite not being upgraded, was beautifully decorated and quite large. It had a seating area and a large outdoor terrace. The bathroom was also large and beautiful, with a huge shower and a beautiful soaking tub and the toilet and an additional sink in another area of the room. There was also a large walk-in closet.

The large outdoor terrace was great but did not have a view of the water.

There was a nice chocolate bar and a note welcoming us when we first arrived. And when we returned from a walk around the area, someone had also brought us a delicious loaf of banana-coconut bread and a dessert with another nice note.

Other Amenities

The Park Hyatt has a narrow but lovely infinity pool on the second level that opens up to the wharf area. The fitness center is nearby, and my husband enjoyed using it. They also have a beautiful spa where I would have loved to get a massage. Oh well, next time!

Restaurants

The food at this hotel was superb—some of the best I’ve had at any hotel. There are three main restaurants:

  • Onemata
  • The Living Room
  • The Pantry

Onemata is where breakfast is served for Hyatt Globalists. You can order small plates and two large plates along with the breakfast buffet and cold and hot beverages. This was probably one of the best breakfasts we’ve ordered at a hotel. My husband talked about it all day. He had an American breakfast, and I had eggs Benedict. We then shared the most delicious lemon/blueberry pancakes I’ve ever had! Pure deliciousness, and all of it was free, including our tip. Ordinarily, it would have cost $50 a person and would have been worth every cent!

Enjoying the best breakfast with a view of the harbor!

My husband ordered room service the first night. The fried rice with prawns was so good that I ordered them from the dining room the second night. He also had seafood linguine and a Caesar salad. We thought the food was excellent at this hotel.

Bottom Line

My Park Hyatt Auckland review?  Flawless. Even without a room upgrade, I would recommend this hotel and fully intend to return. Escaping Denver’s snow for New Zealand’s summer is a dream. With complimentary stays, free valet parking, a phenomenal breakfast, and breathtaking views, it’s the perfect retreat for this luxury-loving grandma!
