Reader Success Story to Hyatt Place Dewey Beach

Pam

Annette sends her reader success story to the Hyatt Place Dewey Beach. We know many of our readers love a great beach vacation like we do. I didn’t know that Dewey Beach in Delaware was an option! Here’s Annette’s story.

New Mom Plans Family Trip

I’m a first-time mom who wanted to take her new baby on a not-so-stressful trip in his first year. My husband and I decided this would be a good opportunity to visit his brother and family in Northern Virginia. But I also wanted to hit the coast, so we combined these two ideas.

Flights with Points

We transferred 36,000 Chase Ultimate Reward® from Chase to Air France for our flights. I found a flight from Detroit (DTW) to Baltimore – Washington (BWI) (and reverse) for 7,500 points per person each way.

At the time, Chase also had a transfer bonus to Air France of 25%. I purchased a seat for the 3 of us on a Delta-operated flight. The total point cost was 36,000 points. I had to call to book since I was booking an infant (he would be five months old). Technically, Air France has discounted tickets for babies, and the agent I spoke with said I should receive a points discount for the baby but that he was unable to do it himself. I never saw any points refunded, but it was so cheap that I wasn’t too concerned. The Delta ticket cost was over $1,000. We spent only $103 in taxes and fees, plus the points.

That Delta flight looks pretty comfortable!

We flew into BWI without too many tears and picked up our car rental. I checked Autoslash.com to ensure I was getting the best deal, but being a member of Enterprise got me the best cash price for the type of car we rented. After landing in Baltimore, we drove an hour to my brother-in-law’s house.

Dewey Beach

We spent a few days with the family and then drove to Dewey Beach. It was about a 2.5-hour drive without traffic, but the D.C. area has lots, as does the beach in the summer, so it took us closer to 3 hours of driving. We made one stop to feed the baby and grab some lunch at an IHOP.

We stayed at Hyatt Place Dewey Beach. It is a Category 5 hotel. We paid 29,000 points for each of the two nights during this peak season. The room was spacious as usual with a Hyatt Place, and somewhat recently updated. It wasn’t as clean as we would have liked (this seems to be a trend since the pandemic with staffing issues), but the bed was super comfy. We had them bring us a crib to use for the baby. They did not provide a sheet for the crib, so get your own if you plan to use one.

On the first night, we went to dinner at Nalu, a Hawaiian-themed restaurant right across the street from the hotel. I had a shave ice drink, which was fun! The food was good, although my crab cake was a little dry. Then, we caught the sunset at the Bay.

Activities at Dewey Beach

The best part about this property is its location, particularly if you have young children. The hotel is on the Rehoboth Bay side of this peninsula. They have a little beach right on the property. The water is warm, and you don’t have to worry as much about big waves or tides. There were a handful of families with young children near us on our full day there.

Vinny enjoyed the water on this side!

Across the street, just past Nalu, is an entrance to the beach on the ocean side. It was really busy, but we snagged a spot right by the entrance. It’s much cooler on the Ocean side from the breeze, but the water is MUCH colder. It’s safe to say our son was not as big of a fan of the ocean side. But he did take a good snooze on a beach towel. They also have an indoor pool, which we stopped at a couple of times.

Breakfast at the Hyatt Place was included as usual. It was a full spread with eggs, pancakes/waffles, cereal, meat, muffins, fruit, yogurt, etc. We enjoyed our stay but wish we had planned to stay a bit longer. We would definitely go back and explore more. Points and miles allowed us to travel nearly free to visit family and get away to the beach.

Bottom Line

Thanks Annette, for your reader success story to the Hyatt Place at Dewey Beach, Delaware. We are thrilled that your family enjoyed a great stay thanks to credit card points and miles!
