Reader Success Story to Maui/Oahu

Pam

Amber sent us her reader success story to Maui/Oahu. Here is her story:

Last June my husband and son flew to Maui/Oahu to visit family and celebrate my husband’s grandfather’s 100th birthday!

We used Southwest points to book the trip as well as a Southwest Companion Pass that we earned with the Southwest card sign-up bonus. It took some legwork to line up the round-trip flights since we needed the flights from the East Coast to Maui but it all worked out! We even did some island hopping once we got there. All in all, we spent $67 total for the flights and around 50,000 points. The day they flew, Southwest had some crazy delays. A couple of flights were delayed so we asked for vouchers and were able to get $600 back in travel funds with Southwest. So I like to say that Southwest paid to send my husband and son to Hawaii. 🙂

I started to seriously  use credit card points and miles about 3 years ago since we live in Florida far from all of our family in the north and in Hawaii. My favorite cards/points are the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card and the Southwest card. We have not had to pay for flights to see mainland family (in OH and KY) for 3.5 years now and counting.

We are on track to earn the Companion Pass again with Southwest and would love to travel to Maui to see family again with this pass and points. As a family of 6,  I love being creative to save our family money but still travel with our children!

Congratulations, Amber, on successfully planning a great family trip. We enjoyed your reader success story to Maui/Oahu and love seeing families create lasting memories together!
