Reader Success Story to Paris and Boston

Pam

One of our TMS dads, Nick, sent us this reader success story to Paris and Boston. Here is his story of learning about points and miles and then using that education for an amazing trip!

As I sit here at the Hôtel du Louvre in Paris, writing this, I can hardly believe this is possible on points. We have friends who would occasionally open an airline credit card to earn points, but I never gave it much thought. Then, in mid-2023, I decided I wanted a hobby and wanted to learn more about points and miles.

Nick and his lucky wife who gets to enjoy his new hobby!

I started with the card_name before finding TMS. I stumbled across Travel Mom Squad on Facebook and wondered if the girls allow men in their group. [Pam’s note: Of course we do!] So I submitted a request to join and read numerous posts. Hours and hours later, learning everything I could, the information started to gel. Then I found the podcast, and my learning really took off. Like most newbies, I hit it hard with credit cards, opening the trifecta of Chase cards, adding the Chase Freedom Flex℠ and card_name

I began to think about what I would do with these miles. My son was a sophomore studying French as his foreign language, so I set my sights on his graduation gift for 2025: a trip to Paris. Here’s how we made it happen, utilizing a total of 983,000 points.

Flights

We wanted to take Air France based on what we had heard about the experience from Alex and Pam’s podcast reviews.  We found saver business class for three round-trip tickets for July 2025 at 50k Flying Blue miles per person each way. We repositioned from the West Coast to DFW using AA with points from the British Airways card at 18K each. We stayed one night at the Hyatt Regency DFW to reposition, for 12K Hyatt points.

Hotels

Of course, my Player 2 became a Hyatt girl after her first Park Hyatt in TorontoWe booked the Hôtel du Louvre in Paris for four nights and two rooms on two nights, as our family size is three.  It is an amazing hotel.

We booked the Crowne Plaza Paris – Republic for four nights and two rooms for two of those nights.  We got the fourth night free with the card_name card. I used one free-night certificate with 20k points topped off on it for one night and 160k for other nights.

We spent five nights at the Hyatt Regency Paris Étoile in a suite with club access for 130k points. [Pam’s note: This hotel is very popular with our readers!] To complete our trip, we spent four nights at the Hyatt Regency Boston Harbor on our return to the United States. Finally, we returned from Boston to the West Coast using AAdvantage miles (from the AAdvantage® Aviator® Red World Elite Mastercard®) for 10K miles each to Phoenix and then an additional 4.5K miles to Sacramento.

All information about the AAdvantage® Aviator® Red World Elite Mastercard® has been collected independently by Travel Mom Squad. The AAdvantage® Aviator® Red World Elite Mastercard® is no longer available through Travel Mom Squad.

Bottom Line

We love the dads that follow us! Thanks, Nick, for sharing your reader success story to Paris and Boston and walking us through how you made it happen! Let us know how your journeys with points and miles continue to unfold!
