Laura sent us her reader success story to the Big Apple: NYC! It is also one of our favorite places to use credit card points and miles! We also have a lot of NYC content on our website if you get inspired by Laura’s trip. Here is her story:
Earning and Using Points/Miles
I want to thank you for helping us reach our travel goals! I learned about your
podcast about a year ago and got my first credit card last December (2023). Since then, my husband (who is all-in) and I have earned close to a million points.
You’ve helped us get away for a much-needed date night to a Hyatt in Biloxi, MS. I traveled for free this summer with my kids to see family, using my newly earned Southwest® Companion Pass and erasing my rental car with Capital One Miles. We even erased campground fees when we traveled with our camper. It’s been fantastic!
New York City for Five
Last month, we took a nearly free trip to NYC for my family of five! Our children are ages 13, 11, and 7. We had “window shopped” this trip for about two years but couldn’t pull the trigger because of the price. I started planning the trip in the spring.
We flew from New Orleans on United Airlines with transferred Chase Ultimate Rewards®. We stayed at the
Midtown Hyatt Place in Manhattan. It was exactly what we needed. We had two queen beds and a pull-out couch, so our family actually fit! The website allows you to book five people in a room, which can be tricky to find. The hotel was clean, the location was perfect, and the breakfast exceeded expectations. Complimentary breakfast saved us so much money with our bigger family. The hotel has a balcony which has a very close view of the Empire State Building and was a great spot to eat take out for several meals.

Points and miles made this trip possible!
Points covered most of our activities while in New York. We used
Hyatt FIND Experiences to see Aladdin on Broadway and the Blue Man Group. Hyatt Experience points got us the City Pass, which we used for the Museum of Natural History, the Wax Museum, and the Empire State Building. I listened to your podcast on NYC to learn about Hyatt FIND Experiences, so thank you again. This trip wouldn’t have been possible without your knowledge. Without points, this trip would have cost over $7,000.

Future Plans
I am currently working on our next trip, which will be spring break in Hawaii. I already have four nights booked at the
Grand Hyatt Kauai and have the points saved to finish booking the trip. I plan to hop to the Big Island.
I could talk about traveling on points ALL THE TIME! I’ve got several friends on the train, and the referral points have also helped our points earning. Also, our credit scores haven’t decreased much, even with the numerous cards we’ve opened this year. Our credit scores were our biggest reservation at the beginning of our journey.
Thanks, Laura, for sending in your reader success story to the Big Apple! We can’t wait to see where points and miles take you on your journeys!
