Sierra’s Story

My husband and I used 36,900 Southwest Rapid Rewards to fly to Belize. It also cost us $83 in taxes and fees. We have the Southwest Companion Pass so that 36,900 was the cost for a single roundtrip ticket. We added the second ticket for just the cost of taxes and fees. It may not have been a luxurious first-class flight, but it was special for us because Southwest has so few international flights, and we felt like this was a steal!

For the hotel, we used 110,000 American Express Membership Rewards and transferred them to Hilton. We stayed at Mahogany Bay (a Hilton Curio property). We also used 8,000 Hyatt points for a single-night stay in Denver on our way there.

The cards we used were the  Southwest Priority, the Southwest Performance Business, and the American Express Business Platinum. The last card gives us Hilton gold status so we were upgraded to a suite for free! Total points spent: 154,900.

I first learned about the points world several years ago when a friend told us about the Southwest companion pass. I started researching and following a few points pages and I was immediately hooked!

I think my next goal is to try Emirates first-class or Qatar business class and go to Bali! Although your latest trip to the Maldives has made me want to go there as well.

Thanks, Sierra for sharing your story with us!
