We love so many things about Southwest® Flights! The Southwest® Companion Pass is one of the best deals! Free baggage allowances make family travel so cheap! And the ability to rebook Southwest Flights when prices drop saves us a ton of points/money!
On our Instagram account we have talked about how we keep an eye on our booked Southwest flights and rebook them when prices. It has literally saved us a ton in points. When you rebook an award flight, the points not needed for the reduced fare, are credited back to you.
We know that booking award travel is stressful. Many people get into analysis paralysis about whether they are doing it right or getting the best possible deal for their points. We love that Southwest® Airlines has made it easier for us to book a flight and know that we are getting the best deal because we can rebook if we find a lower price in cash or points.
Passengers who book the “Wanna Get Away” fares will receive a Travel Fund Credit for the difference between the two flights. Only the ticketed passenger can use this credit.
Recently Southwest introduced the “Wanna Get Away Plus” fare. This new fare has an exciting feature. If you need to cancel your flight, you can actually transfer your flight credit to someone else, as long as you both have Rapid Rewards® accounts. You can also make same-day changes to your flight. See an earlier flight? You can book it without a charge. If you rebook Southwest Flights when prices drop with this fare, that Travel Fund Credit can also be used for someone else. If you want to rebook one of the higher fares, the price difference will be charged to you.
This one’s super simple. The difference in points just returns to your account.
When I log into my account, I can see my booked trips. Here is my trip to SLC for July 3rd.
Down at the bottom right there is a “Change flight” area that you would hit once you found a cheaper flight.
I would put all the information about the cheaper flight in that area and press “explore options”.
When I pick the flight I’d like, I will get an opportunity to review my changes.
Once I hit the “Review changes” button, this screen comes up for my review.
The next screen has me confirm my changes and my new ticket is booked and the points are credited back to my account.
The ability to rebook Southwest flights when prices drop makes it easier to just go ahead and make reservations when you have the points. No more hemming and hawing about “what if” the prices go lower. If they do, just follow these super easy steps and get your extra cash or points back! Has this worked for you?
