Hawaii is one of my very favorite travel destinations. It is expensive, but thanks to credit card points and miles, I have been able to return year after year for next to nothing. We’ve previously shared how to use Marriott points to stay in Hawaii as well as Hyatt points. Today, we will share how you can stay at Hilton hotels in Hawaii using points. There are some really great Hilton hotels on the Hawaiian islands. In this post, we’ll go over all of those hotels, how much they cost, and how you can get points to stay for free. There are a couple of things I really like about Hilton. First, they don’t charge resort fees on award stays, and second, you get the 5th night free on award stays!

 

How to Get Hilton Points

There are four Hilton credit cards. They are all issued by American Express.

 

 

The Hilton Honors card is their no-annual fee card.

They also offer the Hilton Surpass card, which has a $95 annual fee.  This card comes with Hilton Gold status, which includes free breakfast for 2 and room upgrades based on availability. With this card, you’ll also get 10 Priority Pass lounge visits each year. Additionally, if you spend $15,000 on the card a year, you’ll get a free weekend night award that can be used at almost any Hilton hotel.

The Hilton Aspire is a luxury Hilton card. It has an annual fee of $450. The card comes with Hilton Diamond status. This means you will get room upgrades (including suites), free breakfast, hotel lounge access, and a welcome gift at your hotel. Each year you will get a free weekend night award that can be used at almost any Hilton hotel. You’ll also get a $250 airline incidental credit and a $250 Hilton resort credit each year.

The Hilton Honors Business card has the same benefits as the Hilton Surpass card.

 

Hilton Award Chart

Hilton actually doesn’t have an award chart. They have an explorer tool that allows you to search by destination and the number of points you would like to use. This will give you an idea of what you could expect to pay, but prices can vary, so always check your dates using the standard booking search engine.

 

Here is what comes up when I search for Hilton hotels in Hawaii using the Points Explorer tool. These are just a few of the hotels. The tool doesn’t show Hilton Grand Vacation properties which are also bookable with points. You’ll want to search the Hilton site to see how much those cost per night.

 

Hilton points are valued at about .05 cents each. Below you have the Ocean Tower by Hilton Grand Vacations. The price for one night is $183, a $40 resort fee and $43 in taxes for a total of $267.  If I used points, it would cost 85,000. That puts a value of about .03 cents per point. That is a really poor evaluation. I would not use my points to stay here.

 

Here we have the Hilton Waikoloa Village. After resort fees and taxes you are looking at $276 a night. Using points would be just 54,000 points per night. That puts a value of .05 cents per point. That is much better. I would book my stay here instead of the Ocean Towers for those dates.

 

With Hilton, you also have the option to pay with points and money. You can choose how many points you would like to use in increments of 1,000. You can also use more points for an upgraded room, although sometimes the price can get really steep. Now that you have an idea of how Hilton points work, let’s check out the Hilton hotels in Hawaii.

 

Hilton Hotels on Oahu

There are 11 Hilton hotels on the island of Oahu, four of them being Hilton Grand Vacations.

 

Hilton Waikiki Beach

Hilton Waikiki Beach ranges from 54,000-60,000 points per night for a standard room. The beach is just a block away from the hotel. International Marketplace, Honolulu Zoo, and Kapiolani Park are also nearby.  This hotel was named the #6 hotel in Hawaii by Conde Nast Traveler Reader’s Choice Awards in 2018.

 

 

Hilton Garden Inn Waikiki Beach

The Hilton Garden Inn Waikiki Beach comes up as 50,000 points per night in the Points Explorer tool. This hotel is two blocks from the beach. It has a rooftop pool and a fitness center.

 

 

 

Embassy Suites by Hilton Waikiki Beach Walk

The cost per night at the Embassy Suites Waikiki Beach Walk varies between 67,000-70,000 points per night. This is a great choice for families. Each room has a separate living area with a sofa bed. Breakfast is also included when you stay here. At just one block from the beach, the location is great.

 

 

DoubleTree By Hilton Hotel Alana-Waikiki Beach

You can expect to pay 50,000 Hilton Honors points for each night at the DoubleTree By Hilton Hotel Alana-Waikiki Beach. The hotel is located on the edge of Waikiki, within a mile of Waikiki Beach, Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon, and the Ala Moana Center. Enjoy the famous DoubleTree chocolate chip cookie upon check-in.

 

 

Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort

The Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort will run you 60,000 points per night. This resort covers some 22 acres. It is located on the beach and features its own lagoon. While here you can enjoy the Mandara Spa, one of the five swimming pools, and a variety of dining options.

 

 

Hampton Inn and Suites Oahu/Kapolei

A night at the Hampton Inn & Suites Oahu/Kapolei will cost you between 37,000-50,000 points a night. This Hilton hotel is located in Ka Makana Ali’i shopping center, 10 minutes from the University of Hawaii – West Oahu and 15 minutes from Ko Olina Lagoons and Beach Park. Enjoy a hot, free breakfast each morning during your stay.

 

 

Embassy Suites By Hilton Oahu Kapolei

The cost per night at the Embassy Suites By Hilton Oahu Kapolei is between 59,000-80,000 points. The hotel is a mile from Wet ‘n’ Wild Hawaii, and 20 minutes from Pearl Harbor. They offer a free shuttle to White Plains Beach and other area beaches. You will find two onsite restaurants and can enjoy a free cooked-to-order breakfast each morning.

 

 

Hilton Grand Vacations

In addition to these hotels, there are four Hilton Grand Vacations you can use your points at. There is the Grand Waikikian, Hilton Grand Vacations at Hilton Hawaiian Village, The Grand Islander, and Hokulani Waikiki. These resorts won’t show up using the Points Explorer tool but they are bookable with points. You will need to search on the Hilton website for specific dates. In a quick search, I saw that each of these hotels was over 100,000 points a night when searching March 12-13, 2021.

 

 

Hilton Hotels on Maui

There are just two options for staying at a Hilton hotel on the island of Maui, Grand Wailea, and Ho’olei at Grand Wailea.

 

Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort

Grand Wailea is a beautiful resort. As such, you can expect to pay 95,000 points per night to stay here. The resort is located right on Wailea Beach. I have stayed next door at the Marriott Wailea Beach Resort and I can’t explain to you just how gorgeous this area is! This resort can have very high cash prices, it is never cheap! This is luxury resort. As such, using your points to visit this Hilton hotel in Hawaii is a great idea.

 

 

Ho’olei at Grand Wailea

If you hit the Hilton lottery then you may want to check out the Ho’olei at Grand Wailea. Last I checked, nights were about 400,000 each! Accommodations here are 2-story, 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms townhomes.

 

 

Hilton Hotels on Kauai

 

Hilton Garden Inn Kauai Wailua Bay

The only Hilton on the island of Kauai is Hilton Garden Inn Kauai Wailua Bay. A night here will cost you between 44,000-50,000 Hilton Honors points per night. At the hotel you will find, two pools, a restaurant, and a poolside bar. The property is located in Kaapa, next to Lydgate Beach Park and within walking distance of Wailua Bay. One interesting thing about this hotel is that is one of the hotels participating in Kauai’s Enhanced Movement Quarantine or Bubble Program.

 

 

Hilton Hotels on the Big Island

There is one Hilton hotel on the Big Island of Hawaii and three Hilton Grand Vacations.

 

Hilton Waikoloa Village

To stay at the Hilton Waikoloa Village you are looking to use 60,000 points per night. But, as you saw in the example at the beginning of the post, nights can also go for 54,000 points. Goes to show that you don’t want to rely on the Points Explorer tool. It will give you a general idea but always double-check your travel dates. This is a very large resort, covering 63 acres! Luckily, they have air-conditioned trams to transport you around the resort. During your stay, you can enjoy the three pools, tennis courts, two golf courses, and more!

 

 

Hilton Grand Vacations

In addition to the Hilton Waikoloa Village, there are three Hilton Grand Vacations you can use your points at. There is Ocean Tower, Kohala Suites, and Kings’ Land. These resorts won’t show up using the Points Explorer tool but they are bookable with points. You will need to search on the Hilton website for specific dates.

 

Bottom Line

There are some really great options for Hilton Hotels in Hawaii. You can use your points for luxury or save and stay in more standard accommodations. Whatever your preference, there is a Hilton in Hawaii for you!
