Virgin Atlantic Upper Class Review

Pam

I recently took my first Virgin Atlantic Upper Class flight from London to Boston. I then flew home from Boston to Denver. Basically, I positioned myself to the U.S. and then flew home. I was excited to fly Virgin Atlantic because I had heard that they have a great premium-class product. Here is my Virgin Atlantic premium-class review.

Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse

Because I was flying Virgin Atlantic Upper Class I had access to the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse in London. I made sure to get there early so that I could enjoy it. Virgin Atlantic Clubhouses are unique as there is a QR code near your seat, you can order your food and beverage from your phone, and then it is delivered to you. I love this concept.

QR code to order food

I love the convenience of ordering food with a QR code.

This lounge is MASSIVE and even has Peloton bikes that you can ride with a view of the runway. There are a ton of seating areas and some hanging swing chairs that people were enjoying.

Airport lounge

This lounge is massive, with a ton of seating!

I ordered some baked wings and a Caesar salad, and both were delicious. I finished it off with a cake that was wonderful, too. The food and the quality of the lounge were very impressive.

Chicken wings, salad, and brown drinks on table

I thought the food in the lounge was really good!

The Flight

Seats

Where do you prefer to sit on a flight? I love to choose the single window seats which are more private. It’s not that I’m anti-social 😜 but I prefer to have that privacy, and can you really hear what someone says on a plane anyway?

Airplane seats

The purple lighting is distinctive to Virgin Atlantic. My single seat near the window was perfect.

My seat was quite large and comfortable. Above our seats were bags with a mattress pad and blanket, and I did manage about 2-3 hours of a nice nap. This was a daytime flight, and I was staying overnight at the in-terminal Hilton in Boston (on points, of course) before flying out the next day.

Airplane Seat

I spent about 8 hours in this seat, which was very comfortable.

Food

You can see the menu next to the subpar amenity kit. (I just wasn’t impressed with the packing of the amenity kit—not that I needed another one 😂). However, the food on the flight was delicious (almost like it was homemade). I really enjoyed my choice of the chicken breast and the delicious cake for dessert.

Menu and amenity kit

Here is the menu I could choose from, along with the amenity kit.

There is a small lounge area for Upper Class flyers behind the seats. There are alcoholic beverages and some snacks available there, but I don’t see that more than six people could sit there, and I only saw 2-3 at a time.

Airline snack area

This little upscale galley area was available for drinks and snacks throughout the flight.

Bottom Line

The flight crew was attentive and nice, the seat was comfortable, and the food was great! All in all, I really enjoyed this flight and would love to retake it. The one drawback is the high surcharges for flying out of London. They are always part of London flights but seemed exceptionally high on this flight at around $600. However, I only used 57.5K miles to book it (by transferring AMEX rewards to Virgin Atlantic), and the flight would cost almost $7,000 in cash. I think my $600 for this amazing flight is okay, as I couldn’t fly economy for that price!

My Virgin Atlantic Upper Class flight was great, and I would do it again. Points and miles for the win, once again!

I have definitely been on a few old planes on other airlines that certainly were not as nice as other business class flights. The particular plane can definitely define an experience.
