I’ve been using points to travel for about two years after buying the course, and wanted to get my mom on board. I knew the best way to do that was to take her on a trip! We live in North Carolina, so my mom, sister, and I drove down to one of our bucket list destinations: Savannah, Georgia.

Hotel Stay with Points and Eating Options

I used free night certificates from the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless card I signed up for when the offer was five 50K certificates. We stayed at The Alida Hotel, which was the CUTEST hotel—super clean and dog friendly! It was also walking distance to most of what we wanted to do. We went in March right before St. Patrick’s Day weekend, which, if you didn’t know, they go ALL out for. The cash price for this trip would’ve been $990.50 for two nights. The points rate was exactly 50K points/night.

Our first afternoon there, we went to The Olde Pink House. The food was SO good, but be sure to make a reservation at least a month out, maybe more if the system will allow it. Honestly, you should plan to have a reservation for every meal in Savannah. We spent the rest of the day wandering around town.

The next morning, we went to Mirabelle Savannah for brunch and had the best waffles. It’s a cute little coffee shop across the street from popular tourist spots. If you haven’t been to Maple Street Biscuit Company, you should plan to do so, but get there early. We spent about an hour in line waiting to order.

We also did a Ghost Tour, some shopping at The Paris Market, and walked around Lafayette Square. I am getting married, so we even went wedding dress shopping at Camellia Bridal. The Ghost Tour was really cool even though I was the main one who didn’t want to go. It was more like a history walk with creepy fun facts than experiencing anything supernatural (although that kind is available if that’s your thing). Vinnie Van GoGo’s and Leopold’s Ice Cream are other places we didn’t get a chance to stop at but will on our next trip.

The weather was perfect since it was March. It drizzled some which is common, so bring a rain jacket. Other than that, we had no complaints. There are lots of cobblestones, so leave the heels at home.

Past and Future Uses of Credit Card Points and Miles

This was one of my favorite trips for which I’ve used points. I’ve also used points for Las Vegas, Jamaica (x2), Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Charlotte, and New Orleans!

My next goal is to book flights for our five-night honeymoon in September at Secrets Impression Moxché, also booked on points. None of this would have been possible without learning from Travel Mom Squad!
