Review of the Gaylord Resort in Denver

Pam

I recently had a stay at the Gaylord Rockies Resort in Denver near the Denver Airport. Here is my review of the Gaylord Resort in Denver.

Gaylord Resorts is part of the Marriott Brand, and there are currently five of them, with another one coming to Chula Vista, California. These are the ones presently available:

  • Gaylord Palms (Florida)
  • Gaylord Rockies (Denver)
  • Gaylord Opryland (Nashville)
  • Gaylord National (Maryland)
  • Gaylord Texan (Texas)
  • Gaylord Pacific (coming soon)

These all seem to be huge resorts with special events, waterparks or expansive swimming areas, and multiple eating areas. The one in Denver has over 500,000 square feet of flexible meeting, convention, outdoor, exhibit, and pre-function space.

They are huge if all of them are similar to the Gaylord Rockies. Gaylord Rockies is near the Denver International Airport and is readily visible from the area as it is gigantic!

Reason for the Stay

I was returning to Colorado on a late-night flight and needed to visit my daughter, who lives in Colorado Springs, the next day. Additionally, my husband had a 35K Marriott certificate that was expiring. We opted to use that certificate to stay at the Gaylord Rockies so that we didn’t have to drive the hour home and then return to Colorado Springs (2 hours away).

My two favorite Denver Airport stays are the Westin adjacent to the Denver Airport and the Gaylord Rockies, which is every bit as nice but require fewer points to stay at.

Arrival at the Gaylord Rockies

The first impression is that it is a gigantic hotel. The lobby is large, open, and beautiful. There are multiple restaurants and many business meeting rooms. I arrived late, but my husband said the place was hopping with families all day, and the swimming pool was very crowded. It is a very popular location for family stays!

We were upgraded to a suite with our Platinum Elite status, but that did not include a free breakfast like it usually does. This room was quite spacious. I really like the decor at this hotel. It is very much a Colorado style with wood and neutral decor.

Activities at the Gaylord Rockies

Each Gaylord Hotel has amazing activities. Christmas-time stays are especially festive. The Gaylord Rockies offers daily activities, including making s’mores outside. Even though we were there for just hours, I could see that it was a happening place in the summer, too.

Bottom Line

The Gaylord Resort in Denver, Colorado, is a great place to stay before you fly out of Denver Airport. It is more economical than the Westin but a very nice hotel. Unfortunately, there is no shuttle to the airport, so you will need to depend on Uber for transportation if you haven’t rented a car. After my recent stay there, I plan to add it to my favorite airport hotels.
