Vienna and the Park Hyatt Vienna

Vienna, Austria, has been a trip I’ve wanted to make for a while. I particularly wanted to stay at the Park Hyatt Vienna as it is one of the favorite Park Hyatts as mentioned by Hyatt Globalists. When I was planning my recent trip to Greece (more on that in a future post), I thought about taking a trip to Vienna, too. Then, I found a flight home from Vienna to JFK on Iberia Airlines for only 34K miles, which sealed the deal. Unfortunately, we could only spend two nights and one full day in Vienna, but it was long enough for me to fall in love with this historic city.
Flight to Vienna, Austria
Our flight to Vienna was booked with cash on Austrian Airlines. We were staying in Chania, Crete, so we had to take a transfer to Heraklion Airport, which was about two hours away. The ride to the airport was gorgeous, and we enjoyed more of the Crete coastline. I booked this transfer on Viator for a little under $200.
Skyserv Express Lounge
With my Priority Pass Lounge Access, we could go to the Skyserve Express Lounge before our flight. There weren’t many food options, but there was air conditioning and great sofas to lounge on. We were REALLY happy that we had that access when our flight was delayed an hour. The airport was hot and not very modern—it was much better to be in the lounge!

The Skyserv Lounge in Heraklion Airport was relatively modern and comfortable.
Staying at the Park Hyatt Vienna
The Park Hyatt Vienna is a Category 7 hotel, and I used 30K points/night to stay there for two nights. I had booked a two-twin room but heard from the hotel before my stay that they had upgraded me to a Park Suite.
The exterior of this grand hotel matched Vienna’s architecture. It was formerly a bank.
The hotel lobby had me at “hello”! Grandeur and luxury were immediately evident!
This was the living area of our suite, with a great view of a cute Vienna street. Fruit and house-made chocolate were a welcome amenity, and a nice note was included.
The Bank Brassiere and Bar was stunning. A wonderful buffet and hot ala carte items were available for breakfast—complimentary for Globalists!

The service at the Park Hyatt Vienna was spectacular (as expected). It is in a great location to walk the city and see the sites. We spent about $40 on Uber rides to get there from the airport and again for our return. I would happily return to this gorgeous Park Hyatt in the future.
Activities in Vienna
With just one day in Vienna, we opted to take a Viator tour of the city. This 2 1/2-hour tour was perfect for orienting us to the city and giving us some history. After this tour, I felt comfortable going out on my own. The city is gorgeous, seems quite safe, and has many eating and shopping options.
The Hofburg is the former principal imperial palace of the Habsburg dynasty in Austria. It now houses many museums.

So, so many beautiful cathedrals to visit!
St. Stephen’s Cathedral – you can see it from most areas of Vienna.
The one restaurant I ate at, but it was delicious. A quiche and peach salad that were delicious, followed by a lemon tart. I’d return to Vienna just to eat them again!😜
Flights Home on Iberia Airlines
We flew home on Iberia Airlines for 34K each from Vienna with a connection in Madrid (a LONG one) and on to JFK. Flights from Vienna to Madrid were just the typical middle-seat blocked-off European business class. You can read my review about our main flight, Madrid – JFK, tomorrow.
Bottom Line
A short trip to Vienna may not be something you’d do. However, I loved it. I felt like I got a feel for the city and enjoyed it SO much. Vienna and the Park Hyatt Vienna were a perfect side jaunt after a beach vacation. They reminded me how much I love a big city and that I need to mix more of these types of vacations into my beach trips!
