I fell in love with Japan the first time I visited, and it’s still my favorite country after this most recent visit. Ted, Ella, Molly, and I spent spring break in Tokyo and Kyoto, and we had the best time! Here’s my review of Hyatt House Tokyo Shibuya, where we spent four nights. It will be my go-to recommendation for families on points in Tokyo from now on. Here’s how points made it possible….
Hyatt House Tokyo Shibuya is a category 5 Hyatt hotel. That means award nights range from 17,000-23,000 Hyatt points/night. Hyatt does not charge taxes or resort fees on award stays, so we paid $0 out of pocket for our four nights.
The standard king room sleeps two, but if traveling with a family of three or four, you could book a standard suite for 29,000-35,000 Hyatt points/night.
Instead of booking a suite, we booked two separate rooms for our family of four (because we like having two bathrooms). I booked two standard king rooms, then a week before check-in I sent Pam’s upgrade template and asked if it would be possible to get a room with two twin beds for Ella and Molly. They kindly agreed (even though the two twin room is much larger and technically an upgrade). Our rooms did not connect, but they were right next door to one another. It really was the best set-up for our family!

Ella and Molly’s two twin room (with a daybed).
The cash rate for our stay was over $600/night. This is why we transfer a majority of our Chase points to Hyatt—because Hyatt offers such oversized value! Award availability for the Hyatt House Tokyo Shibuya can be hard to come by, so I recommend booking far in advance (Hyatt award availability opens up 13 months in advance), or setting an alert with a site like MaxMyPoint.
A washer/dryer in every room—score!

We enjoyed breakfast at the Hyatt House’s restaurant, Moss Cross, each morning. The restaurant is located near the lobby on the 16th floor, and boasts great Tokyo views. While most Hyatt Houses in the U.S. offer complimentary breakfast to all guests, breakfast at Hyatt House Tokyo Shibuya is not included for all guests and is available at an additional charge (unless you are a Globalist member or are staying as a Guest of Honor).
While it’s a bummer that breakfast isn’t included for all guests, cash prices are reasonable (around $12 for children ages 6-12, $24 for those over 12, and free for children under 6). The buffet is extensive and not your average Hyatt House buffet! They had pastries, yogurt, fruit, eggs (scrambled and fried), potatoes, beans, bacon/ham, a salad bar, and other hot items like miso soup and rice. They also had a selection of juices and the most important thing of all—a latte machine. We really enjoyed the breakfast, and even our pickiest eater found things she liked.

We did not have any other meals at the Hyatt House (because when you’re in Japan, you have to get out and try all the food)! But having breakfast on the 16th floor looking out over central Tokyo was a great way to start each day.

Some other cafes/restaurants in Tokyo that we enjoyed were:
We all loved the latte art at Cafe Reissue.
In her happy place with the rescue cats at Yadorigi Café.
We had an amazing stay at Hyatt House Tokyo Shibuya, and it will be our go-to hotel in Tokyo for family stays. This is the type of trip that’s only made possible by points! Has my review of Hyatt House Tokyo Shibuya convinced you to add this hotel to your bucket list yet?
