A Girls Weekend in NYC Using Points

Alex

Back in 2017, I went on a girl’s weekend in NYC. It was my first time in the Big Apple and I LOVED it! I went on the trip with my mom and three sisters, who just happen to be the best girls to travel with!  Ever since then I have been wanting to get back. In my mind, New York City has got to be one of the top destinations for a girl’s trip. Shows, shopping, Central Park, amazing food, museums, etc. There is soooo much to do! And you know what’s even better? When you can get there and stay for free and then splurge on Broadway tickets and delicious food! Now, how to do a girl’s weekend in NYC with your besties!

To get your flight and hotel paid for each member of the group of four applies for the Chase Sapphire Preferred Credit Card. The signup bonus for this card is 60,000 Ultimate Reward Points after spending $4,000 in 3 months.  By using Chase’s transfer partners you will be able to book both a flight and a one-night hotel stay using this one sign-up bonus and have points leftover!

Your friends will each book one night as well. What this means is that you will have four separate reservations. Upon check-in let the hotel know the situation and ask them to keep you in the same room so you don’t have to keep checking in and out.  They might have you come down and rekey your key each day but that’s a small price to pay for 4 free nights!

NYC Flight Options:

  1. Transfer the necessary points to your United Mileage Plus account and then book your roundtrip ticket.
  2. Transfer points to your Southwest Rapid Rewards account. The number of points will fluctuate depending on the cash price of the ticket at the time.
  3. Transfer points to your JetBlue TrueBlue account. Like Southwest, the number of points required will be determined by the cash price.
  4. If you are a short distance from NYC you can transfer your points into your British Airways account. To look up the cost in points will need to log in to the executive club and then click on “book with Avios.”
  5. Book your flight in the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal.

As you can see you have lots of options for getting yourself to NYC! The cost in points will differ based on your home airport so do a little price comparison. My home airport is Salt Lake City so I will most likely book on JetBlue or United because they both offer a direct flight. I can usually find a ticket for less than 25K points so in most cases I will go with JetBlue, but I will check the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal and Southwest to be safe. Another thing to note is that all of these loyalty accounts are free to open and super easy to set up on the airline’s website.

Girls Weekend NYC Hotel Options:

Depending on where you booked your airline ticket you should have at least 35K points left, probably more when you factor in the points you earned from meeting the minimum spend. This is more than enough to get you a free night at a great hotel! You will want to either transfer points to Hyatt or book in the Ultimate Rewards portal. I find it easier to pick one of the Hyatt’s but you can shop around on the portal if you’d like.

Here are some options for Hyatt’s you could choose.

Grand Hyatt New York City with price per night, a good option for a girls weekend in NYC

The Grand Hyatt is right next to Grand Central Station so the location is great. Like most hotels in NYC, the room has two double beds, which is the same as a full-size bed. Make sure you really like the people you are going with as you could be a little snug ????.

Hyatt Centric New York City with price per night, a good options for a girls weekend in NYC

If you want to be right in the action this is a great location. Another perk is that the Hyatt Centric Times Square has queen beds so you have a little more room.

Hyatt House New York/Chelsea with price per night, good spot for a girls weekend in NYC

The Hyatt House is a little cheaper, has queen beds, and also has free breakfast!

After a quick search on TripAdvisor, I am most impressed with the Hyatt Centric Times Square. Do your research though and figure out which one will be the best for your girl’s weekend in NYC.

What to Do:

The most important thing you need to do on this trip is to eat at Los Tacos no. 1. I have been thinking about those tacos since I left and they might be the biggest reason I want to go back!!!  Also, make reservations for breakfast at Norma’s. It is a little more expensive but the portions are large and it is amazing!

Try to get tickets to a live taping of one of your favorite shows like; the Tonight Show, Live with Ryan and Kelly, The Late Show, etc. They are free and so fun!

Obviously, go to Broadway and see all the shows! Bike through Central Park, go to Ground Zero, check out the Metropolitan Museum of Art, take a ferry out to the Statue of Liberty, go to the Top of the Rock and see a great view of the Empire State Building,  and so much more!
