Hyatt Place Panama City Review

Pam

We recently stayed at the  Hyatt Place Panama City prior to moving to our Vacasa rental at Miramar Beach. We were a family of 29 people staying there in 7 rooms – what were our thoughts? As you all know, I love a good luxury hotel. While I wouldn’t classify the Panama City Hyatt Place a luxury hotel, it was one of the nicest Hyatt Places I have stayed at.

The location is amazing with beach access that is gorgeous. You get 2 loungers and one umbrella complimentary each day. We had 18 of our 21 grandchildren there and the younger ones loved the pool area with the lazy river. None of it is very deep so we were comfortable with the little ones swimming there. They were in heaven at this hotel.

Hotel Redemption

This hotel is now a Category 5 Hyatt Hotel so standard nights are 20K. We stayed there for 18K/night as we booked it when it was a Category 4. Cash rates are over $300/night. Sadly, you do not get room upgrades as Globalist at this hotel so we did not have a view of the ocean. I guess you can upgrade to that for about $20 a night but we didn’t find out about that till we were settled in our rooms. Since we were only staying 2 nights, we decided to not move.

Decor of the Hotel

They have done a great job with the beach vibes of this hotel. Think grey and aqua colors with beachy accents and you have the decor. The rooms were large and comfortable (we just needed those ocean views – do yourself a favor and do the upgrade).

The beauty colors of the room make it seem more luxurious than most Hyatt Places.

Pool Area and Beach Area

The pool area was a hit with our younger crowd and included a lazy river. We were able to find quite a few chairs but were out before 10:00 am. There is a huge beach area and the resort fee (if you are not booking on points) covers 2 chairs and an umbrella. There were always seats there.

Sadly, on our full day there were double red flags which meant NO swimming in the ocean due to riptides. We enjoyed the gorgeous view for a bit and then returned to the pool area.

There were several grandchildren who were in this pool almost all day!

The beach area has a ton of seating.

Despite not really being able to get in the ocean due to riptides, it was nice to look at!

2 beach chairs and an umbrella were complimentary for each of our rooms.

Dining at the Hyatt Place Panama City

A breakfast buffet is included with your stay and we all agreed that this was a step above the usual Hyatt Place breakfast. The main restaurant at the hotel is Coconut Charlie’s Beach Bar and Grill. We were not impressed with our food here but there are numerous places to order Uber Eats from and I was able to make use of my credit from The Platinum Card® from American Express for lunch.

Bottom Line

If you are looking for a very family friendly place for a beach vacation, this is your spot. I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t pick it for a couple’s trip but the Hyatt Place Panama City was what dreams are made of for for my younger grandchildren. If the water had been safe to swim and body surf in while we were there, I think even my older grandchildren and the adults would have enjoyed it. You absolutely can’t beat the redemption cost of 23K off-peak for a beach vacay that can sleep a family of five or six!

I’ve been looking at this hotel! Glad to hear the positive review. Was there a hot tub on property? Thanks!

    • Pam says:

I think so but not positive. We think this is a great property for a family trip in a great location. It is still a Hyatt Place so don’t expect luxury!

You would not suggest for 2 adult friends without kids, correct? We would be going in late October. Looking for mostly quiet beach time.

    • Pam says:

It would definitely be quieter going at that time and is a great location. That being said, I’d probably pick a more luxurious stay.
