Marriott Wailea Beach Resort Review

Pam

Alex and I both recently stayed at the Marriott Wailea Beach Resort in Maui. We missed each other’s stays by 2 days and it was on purpose. She has crafted the greatest travel tip of all time – having a mom come babysit so she and Mitch can get away! So, I watched her four active boys (we call the youngest, FTJ or Full Time Job) for 6 days then I went home to Colorado for a night, and then I left for my own trip to Maui. Here is our Marriott Wailea Beach Resort review.

Without a doubt, the Marriott Wailea Beach Resort is one of our favorite Maui properties. We booked this stay with points before Marriott went to dynamic pricing. The following credit cards earn Marriott Bonvoy Rewards:

It was 50K Marriott Bonvoy Points when we booked. It is now hard to find a stay for under 80K points. Yikes! Is it still worth the increase in points or the $800+ cash price? Here are some reasons I will come back.

Location

It is located about 30 minutes from the Maui airport making it much quicker than heading up to Lahaina. That gives me more time to vacation, and less time driving. Wailea has great shopping, great beaches, and good restaurants, and there are great walking paths all around the hotel along the beach. Perfect for morning walks. Wailea Beach is located a very short walk down the path and the hotel offers chairs and umbrellas that they will set up for you. There is also another beach, Ulua Beach, that you can walk to as well.

So many great walking paths!

Grounds and Pools

The grounds are gorgeous! There are four pools. One has a couple of waterslides and a water play area for children. Two are located near the main lobby (one is under construction at the time of writing). Then there is the adults-only pool that has an infinity pool and is where we spent most of our time. Gorgeous, serene, and restorative were the words we used for this area. I also love that they supply suntan lotion and ice water – that is a sign of a luxury hotel to me!

This was our favorite pool area!

Outside area with ALOHA signage and corn hole game

We loved sitting here on the nearby rocking chairs and watching people play corn hole!

The first day we were here they brought everyone some small cups of frozen mango and later the best banana bread bites (a lot of alliteration there)! We were hoping that was a daily thing but it never happened again just for Labor Day I guess! In our fridge were two reusable water bottles and water refill stations were found scattered around the resort.

There are many sitting areas throughout the hotel and in the outdoor lobby. You can find cornhole games scattered around, a fitness center, a business center, and several shops.

One of many sitting areas – you can do s’mores in the evening here!

This grandma and her sister (also a grandma) enjoyed the waterslide!

Rooms

The rooms are large and spacious with large flat-screen televisions and balconies or outdoor sitting areas. Both times that I’ve been there, we have had views of the ocean. The only thing missing is robes – isn’t that a symbol of hotel luxury? I am a sucker for simple, clean lines in a hotel and they deliver on this for me.

Service

The Marriott Wailea Beach Resort has top-notch service. Everyone we met seemed there to serve the guests. Because I have hotel status, we got two continental breakfasts each day we were there. We also received a nice gift of lip balm and a yummy body spray. On arrival, we were met with fresh leis and a cool fruit punch. In our fridge were two reusable water bottles and water refill stations were found scattered around the resort.

Always love a welcome gift!

Food

We only ate dinner at the hotel once but Humble Kitchen is amazing. We enjoyed the fresh catch of the day and the braised short ribs followed by the most scrumptious pineapple upside-down cake. I can vouch for the poolside food though – a burger and coconut shrimp we ordered was really delicious! The loaded Kaluha Pork Tater Tots are great at   Mo’ Betta Food Truck located near the water slides.

Loaded pork tater tots! Yum!

Bottom Line

The Marriott Wailea Beach Resort is a great stay. There is really nothing I can fault it for except not having robes! Would I come back? In a heartbeat! It’s harder to book with points and miles for a great value but it is totally worth trying to do if you’ve accumulated a lot of points! Have you stayed there before?

We love WBR! We were there in 2020 when they first reopened and are heading back on points in March.
