Quick Trip to Boston on Points and Miles

Pam

Sometimes, a positioning flight allows you to visit or revisit a city before your main objective. In this case, my daughters and I were flying out of Boston on points and miles for our annual girl’s trip. Our primary objective was to visit Lisbon, Portugal, and the Azores Islands. One of my daughters had never been to Boston, so I agreed to make a quick trip to Boston on points and miles.

Flights to Boston

My flight to Boston cost me nothing My daughter, Kelly, offered to let me be her companion on her Southwest Companion Pass.  I don’t actually fly Southwest a lot but it was a direct flight, it cost me zero dollars, and I got to travel with her! We opted for aisle seats across from each other and I started this post while she edited some photos (she’s a photographer).

Using a Free Annual Night Certificate

My husband had an expiring Marriott free annual night certificate, so I had him drive me to Denver Airport, check me in at the magnificent Westin Hotel, adjacent to the airport,  and I enjoyed a quiet night before my flight. This is always a good thing as I can sleep in a little, and it just makes for a more relaxed trip in the morning.

Nothing beats the convenience of this airport for an early flight out of Denver!

Capital One Venture Lounge

We quickly stopped at Denver’s Capital One Venture Lounge before our flight. Sadly, they were out of the chocolate raisins I love, but we were both pleasantly surprised to see so many other “new” food options. The chilaquiles were a hit with my daughter! Of course, I got some delicious cookies to take on board the flight!

Getting to an airport 2 hours early to enjoy an airport lounge is part of the travel experience for me!

Hyatt Regency Boston

We grabbed a taxi at the airport to get to the Hyatt Regency Boston, which was only a few miles away. It is a Category 5 hotel and cost me 23K Hyatt points to book it. The Uber cost us $30.00.  One of us snores 🙋🏻‍♀️, so I opted for a two-queen room.

Hotel Room

For a Hyatt Regency, the room was underwhelming, in my opinion.

Location of Hotel

The hotel’s location was central, and we walked to Boston Common, our dinner at Sorrelina (which was amazing), and our Viator tour. You really can’t beat the hotel’s location for walkability.

Hotel Amenities and Service

We were upgraded to a higher room with views of the city. I looked to see if there was a suite available, but they were sold out completely on the night we booked. The check-in process occurred on the 6th floor, and the lobby was nice but not overly impressive. Neither was the room. It was clean and functional, but it was one of the most unassuming Hyatt Regency Hotels I have stayed at. The service was great, though.

Globalist Breakfast

We were informed that our breakfast would be complimentary and held in their Avenue One restaurant at check-in. We ordered off the menu but also got fruit at the buffet. The tip and our entire breakfast were wiped from our bill. It was also a very good breakfast.

Activities in Boston

We did a tour with Professor Rob for the Revolutionary Story Small Group Tour through Boston. It was a three and 1/2 hour tour and I highly recommend it! He was engaging, funny, and brought the stories to life! I booked this through Viator at a cost of  $76 a person.

We had a great time on our walking tour of Boston- even threw some tea into the harbor!

Our guide suggested Regina’s pizza for lunch. the lines out the door were quick and worth the wait.

Can. you tell the pizza was great?

Bottom Line

Taking a positioning flight to Boston and staying the night was perfect for a quick trip to Boston on points and miles. We got a quick feel of the city and broke up what would have been a long travel day.

Hi there! I can’t seem to find the restaurant that Pam ate at that had the Halibut that she mentioned in the pod cast. Do you have the name of that restaurant? Thank you
