Pam
Thanks to you ladies, I’ve easily saved $20,000 in the last two years since I started traveling with points. A lot of that was saved on trips we were taking anyways. Our biggest redemption was recently at the Kimpton Seafire in the Grand Cayman Islands. It was booked on points using my IHG card, supplemented with 3,000 Ultimate Rewards points transferred to get me the required 210,000 for four nights.
A few days before our trip, I noticed on the app that we had been upgraded to an Ocean View Premium Spa room. I would have loved to have spent more time in the massive bathtub!
The food was also amazing and very allergy-friendly, which is huge for us. Because of that, I was able relax more on this trip. The morning hot chocolate bar (that no one talks about) was delicious, along with the coffee and tea. The afternoon popsicles and sugar-coated frozen grapes were a great touch as well! I really cannot say enough wonderful things about this property.
We booked our flights using our JetBlue card, which also covered our three checked bags both ways. The total, including taxes and fees, for round-trip from JFK was 50,400 points for three tickets, plus $239 in taxes and fees. The return flight to JFK had increased taxes. We also used 25,000 points(via the purchase eraser from our Venture X card) to offset the cost of a suite at the TWA hotel the night before. Accommodations and airfare alone would have cost roughly $12,000, and our total was $1,040!
The suite at the TWA hotel the night before our flight cost us more than our $320 activity fee at Kimpton ($80/night). This was one of our favorite trips ever, and we would never have splurged on this hotel otherwise. We are already planning our trip back next year. We will wait for IHG points sales to purchase additional points to get more than the 4 nights the card gets you. I’ve slowly worn down my anti-credit-card family members, and they are joining the points world. Thank you!
We love hearing about our readers recreating trips that we have done! Grand Cayman is a perfect use of credit card points and miles! Please send us your latest success stories so you can inspire other people with your wins!
