When you think of Mykonos, you may think of beach clubs and wild parties. As a mom looking for a relaxing getaway in Greece, that’s not really the vibe I was going for. I am happy to report that I found a gem in Mykonos that was gorgeous, relaxing, and practically free, thanks to Hyatt points! Here’s my review of the Mykonos Riviera Hotel & Spa.
My friend and I stayed 2 nights at Mykonos Riviera Hotel & Spa, and I only wish we had stayed longer! Standard award nights at this property go for 30,000 Hyatt points/night, so the total for two nights was 60,000 points. My friend was easily able to transfer her half to me via the Hyatt Points Combining Form, so we each only paid 30,000 points total. She earned her points after applying for the Chase Sapphire Preferred and spending $4,000 in the first 3 months. Chase transfers 1:1 to Hyatt, so she was able to transfer her points over to Hyatt then to me.
Cash rates for the standard room during our stay were over $750!
Hyatt does not charge taxes or resort fees on award stays. There was a 4 euro/night tax charged to our room (a tourist tax charged at all hotels in Greece), so while our stay was not technically free, it was quite the steal at 8 euros total. We love Hyatt award stays because of the oversized value they offer, and Mykonos Riviera was no exception.
Mykonos Riviera is part of the Small Luxury Hotels partnership with Hyatt. If you book SLH stays directly with Hyatt, you get:
The best part is everyone gets these benefits regardless of their status with Hyatt! I love using my Hyatt points for stays at smaller, more boutique hotels, all while getting some awesome benefits.
The complimentary breakfast was great. They had the option of buffet or a la carte (or both!). We opted for a la carte and were both pleased with our lattes and eggs benedict with salmon.
Mykonos Riviera is located across the street from the port. We took the ferry to Mykonos from Athens so the location was really convenient. The hotel gave us the option of a complimentary shared transfer from the port or a private transfer for 22 euros per person per way. Given that the hotel is less than a 5-minute drive from the port, we opted for the complimentary shared transportation but ended up being the only ones on the shuttle!
The hotel also has a complimentary shuttle into Mykonos Town each evening. This saved us a lot of money as taxis in Mykonos are pretty expensive. The shuttle had a designated drop-off/pick-up location and was so convenient for going into town for dinner each evening.
While we initially booked a Riviera Retreat room (the standard room at this property), we were hoping for an upgrade based on booking directly through Hyatt. We were not disappointed! At check-in, we were informed that they upgraded us several room categories to an Ambio Retreat room which had a hot tub on the balcony. It was amazing! The king bed was beyond comfortable, and we could not get enough of the views from our hot tub.
I don’t even know where to begin with the spa. It was wonderful, and I had one of the best spa treatments I’ve ever received. We arrived early for our appointments to get the full experience. We spent some time in the heated thalassotherapy pool, which was a perfect way to prepare for our treatments.
For my treatment, I chose the Hammam Combo, which consisted of a 50-minute traditional Hammam followed by a 60-minute massage. The Hammam is a bathing/massage ritual that was unique and unlike anything I’d ever experienced. I highly recommend it!
My friend had the Lava Shells Massage and raved about that as well. Oqua Spa was definitely the highlight of our stay at Mykonos Riviera Hotel!
Mykonos Riviera Hotel and Spa was the perfect hotel for our trip to Mykonos. It is not located right in the center of all the action, so if you want to be near the beach clubs or want more of a party scene, I would not recommend it. But if your goal is to relax and recharge, it’s an excellent choice. The evening shuttle made it convenient to venture into town in the evenings but also allowed us to return to a more tranquil environment at Mykonos Riviera.
