St. George, Utah on Points and Miles

Pam

St. George, Utah, is a gorgeous destination spot in the southwest corner of Utah, known for its warm climate, stunning red rock landscapes, and endless outdoor adventures. With its close proximity to Zion National Park, it’s a perfect addition to any National Parks road trip or just an escape from cold winter weather.

So when the chance came to watch three of our grandsons compete in a soccer tournament in St. George, we didn’t hesitate! Escaping the cold Colorado weather for the beauty of southwestern Utah was an easy choice—especially since credit card points and miles made it possible. These are the kinds of memory-making moments that make points travel so rewarding!

Flights to St. George

St. George has the cutest small airport and, luckily for us, there is a direct flight from Denver. It was on a small airplane that only seated 30 people but it was a quick hour-long flight there. We flew United Airlines and paid a $297 per person for the flight.  Actually we used our United TravelBank credits from The Business Platinum Card® from American Express so it didn’t feel like we paid anything. You could also use as few as 12K United miles to book this flight.

Hyatt Place St. George

Our first night was in the Hyatt Place St. George/Convention Center. It was a typical Hyatt Place, and due to the many sports tournaments held over Presidents’ Day Weekend, it was packed. We paid 15,000 Hyatt points for the stay.

I was particularly impressed with the lobby’s decor—it was really nice for a Hyatt Place. The rooms were pretty standard, as was the breakfast. This is such a great stay for a family going to a tournament here, though. Only 15K, sleeps six, and it includes complimentary breakfast! The pool and large hot tub were hits with many families, too! You just can’t beat the value that a Hyatt Place offers!

This Hyatt Place has great decor.

Again, really nice furniture and colors!

Springhill Suites

We then moved to the Marriott Springhill Suites St. George Washington, where Alex and her family stayed. I couldn’t get a room the first night there with points, so we stayed at the Hyatt Place.  The Springhill Suites are also fantastic for a family stay, but the cost was 46K points per night—many more points than the cost of the Hyatt Place, once again proving that Hyatt offers outsized value even for a more budget-friendly stay.

They have rooms that fit six people and are quite large. My only complaint is that the large bathroom doesn’t have a separate door for the toilet, which makes it harder for a family to have privacy.

A couch with a trundle bed (not pictured) makes this room suitable for four. There are also two-queen rooms.

The bathrooms are large and modern but the toilet doesn’t have a separate door.🫤

Activities and Restaurants in St. George

Between soccer games for three boys, we found time to walk and climb in Pioneer Park. The red rocks offered caves and holes for the boys to enjoy. We also went to BigShots Golf (similar to TopGolf), where everyone had fun challenging each other in different games.

The rest of the time, it was soccer game after soccer game. We had one day of cloudy, rainy weather, but the other two days were sunny and nice (but not as warm as usual).

Bottom Line

St. George, Utah, on points and miles was a fantastic experience! I loved exploring this beautiful destination while also getting to cheer on our grandkids at their games. Best of all, making these special memories without breaking the bank is precisely why we love using credit card points and miles!
