Family hotels in Europe are harder to find than in the United States because they have stricter room occupancy limits. This is regularly a thorn in the side for many of our readers who travel with their families on credit card points and miles. Who really wants to split a family up into two or three rooms? There are a few exceptions to these hard-to-find hotels in Europe for families—let’s see what we can find!

Hyatt offers their family plan rate at some hotels where you can book a second room for 50% off the cash rate—this is a good option. Another suggestion is to look for moderately priced suites that will work for your family.

 

Rome Family Hotels

The Tribune – A JDV Hotel by Hyatt

This hotel has suites that will fit four people and is moderately priced at 27K points/ night. I am staying there this summer because I have heard good things about it, and I will report back.

 

London Family Hotels

London is a popular destination for families but there are NOT a lot of hotels that will allow a family of four to stay in one room. A really unique idea that is fairly affordable is to book The Resident Hotels. They are not part of a chain of hotels, but you could pay for your stay with a Capital One Venture Card and then use the points-eraser feature to “pay” for your stay.

There were several Hyatt Hotels in London with suite availability that would let me book with three people, but as soon as I added the fourth, they weren’t available. It might be worth calling or emailing some of them to see if they will allow four people. These were some of the hotels that I checked:

• Andaz London Liverpool Street
• Hyatt Regency London Blackfriars
• Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill (does offer the family rate plan).

 

Holiday Inn London – Bloomsbury

This is a rare find in London as it clearly states 4 people are bookable. Additionally, kids eat free at the Holiday Inn London-Blomsbury.

 

Crowne Plaza: London – Kings Cross

Another IHG option is the Crowne Plaza: London at Kings Cross. I don’t think these are huge rooms, and they say double beds, but at least they let four people stay in them.

 

Paris Family Hotels

While not cheap, the Park Hyatt Paris does offer the family plan, and Jess stayed there with her family of three. However, the Hyatt Regency Paris Étoile, offers a suite for a family of four that is quite affordable.

We’ve stayed at this hotel, and the location is excellent for walking to many Paris sites. The hotel is nice, the food options are good, and the view from their club lounge is spectacular!

 

 

 

Barcelona

Holiday Inn Express: Barcelona – Molins de Rei

This hotel has a queen bed with a standard sofa bed. Breakfast is included, and it has good reviews.

 

 

Holiday Inn Express: Barcelona – Sant Cugat

Here is another possibility for a family stay in Barcelona. It also includes breakfast and has good reviews.

 

Bottom Line

Finding family hotels in Europe that sleep more than 3 people is difficult. Often, you need to book two rooms. Alternatively, you can consider renting an Airbnb or VRBO.  There are a handful of hotels that can be booked for four people.

I believe that the best bets are IHG hotels (especially Holiday Inn Express or Crowne Plaza Hotels) and Hyatt Hotels using the family plan to pay 50% cash for a second room. Please comment below on any other European hotels that will work for families using credit card points and miles.
