Positioning Through the Calgary Airport

Pam

I’ve found a new place to position myself for flights to Europe. I had to find last-minute flights to Europe this summer and ended up positioning through the Calgary Airport. I was pleasantly surprised and hope to do it in the future. You might also consider it a place to position as it is not as commonly used.

Everyone I met at Calgary Airport was kind and helpful, and I found their customs system easy (of course, I went through it after midnight). I was flying out the next day on Air Canada (a new airline for me), so I opted to stay at the Marriott in-terminal hotel. This hotel was only 17,500 Marriott Bonvoy points, and I used a free 25K annual night certificate that was about to expire.

As a Platinum Elite member, I was upgraded to an M Club level guest room that was on the lounge level and had access to the massive lounge for breakfast and snacks. My room was large, as was the bathroom, and the updated, modern vibe was perfect. Luckily, I wasn’t flying out until 2:00 p.m. the next day so I could enjoy the facilities. This is one of the reasons that I’d like to fly through Calgary again. I thoroughly enjoyed the service and furnishings at this hotel. And 17,500 points is unbelievably cheap.

The Marriott Calgary had a spacious bedroom and you can’t beat the cost in points!

I was surprised that my room had such a large bathroom too!

Marriott Club Lounge

Breakfast was served until 10:00 a.m., so I didn’t have to wake up early. There was a grand buffet complete with hot items, fruit, yogurt, juices, pastries, and meats and cheeses. It was all very good, and the lounge itself is modern, with views of the runway and plenty of seating.

There was abundant seating in the M Lounge.

They also serve canapés in the evenings, desserts at night, and cute treats and beverages all day. I packed up a couple of bags of candy for my flight to London.

The hotel’s lounge won me over with their treats!

Maple Leaf Club Lounge

As a lover of airport lounges, I had never been to a Maple Leaf Club Lounge. This one was massive and served a variety of beverages, buffet items, and even a few made-to-order items (like burgers).  I had recently had breakfast and knew I would eat on my flight in business class, so I only ordered a Diet Coke. There is only so much food a girl can eat – even if it is free!

I finally made it to a Maple Leaf Lounge!

I was very impressed with the furnishings of this lounge and all the comfy sitting spaces and big screen TVs. Again, traveling through the Calgary airport has impressed me.

Bottom Line

Positioning through the Calgary Airport made me feel like I was on a luxurious trip, and I hadn’t even gotten on the airplane yet. I 100% will try to position through Calgary again – have you been to that airport before? What was your experience?
