We talk about Hyatt Globalist status A LOT. It works for us. Over and over again. That’s not to say that it’s worth it for you, though. There are times when Globalist status makes a difference. Recently was one of those nights for me.
I love being a grandma and love to help my children get out and see the world, too. So I am a willing babysitter. It just so happened that I watched children from four out of five families one after another over these last few weeks. Not a huge problem, but it’s also allergy season, and I have the worst hay fever (meaning less sleep and a LOT more feeling miserable). My last babysitting gig happened to take place in London. During a heat wave. During allergy season.
I survived the first night on an air mattress that kept deflating, three more nights of little sleep due to heat (few Londoners have AC), and the need to let pollen in because windows needed to be opened up. When my daughter from London returned, I decided these tired bones needed a Hyatt stay (and air conditioning).
I chose this hotel due to its close proximity to my daughter’s flat as I would be helping her pack up for a move outside of London. It was 29K Hyatt points/night, and I didn’t compare it to other Hyatts—air conditioning was my only priority.
It is stunning. The lobby area was gorgeous, and I instantly realized that I should have changed out of my denim shorts and ball cap before checking in. I was definitely looking casual. So much so that a man in the elevator said that I looked like I was ready for a game of golf! 😜
On check-in, the man told me he had found me a balcony suite—I could have kissed him. These are the times when Globalist status makes a difference! My 29K-point room would have cost £558 or about $713. The Regency Balcony Suite would have cost me over $1500! Now I would have been perfectly happy in the standard room, but I must say, having all that air-conditioned room to wander around in was priceless. Again and again, I say, “I can’t believe what this hobby allows me to do!”
The other perk I got with this stay was lounge access which offered canapés and beverages the evening I arrived. The dress said business casual, and after the man in the elevator’s quip, I thought I should maybe go AFTER that for free beverages.
A full English breakfast was included in the downstairs restaurant, and late checkout til 4:00 pm. I was so tempted to stay another night, but decided to check out a few other hotels to give our readers more options when visiting London.
I love my points and miles and the option to use them for luxury stays or family vacations. There are other times when I need to use them before a positioning flight, to help someone in need, or just to get a break from the weather. Whatever the need is for using points and miles for a hotel stay, there are times when Globalist status makes a difference—a HUGE difference. This last-minute stay was as enjoyable as those I’d planned for months!
