Review of Numu Boutique Hotel San Miguel de Allende

Jess

If you love temperate climates, cobblestone streets, and delicious food, San Miguel de Allende is for you! This colonial-era city is located in Mexico about four hours north of Mexico City. My husband and I spent three nights at Numu Boutique Hotel San Miguel de Allende (part of the Unbound Collection by Hyatt), and fell in love with this charming city. Here’s how we did it on points and miles….

Getting There

We flew from Houston (IAH) to Querétaro (QRO), which is the closest airport to Numu (about 53 miles away). Guanajuato International Airport (BJX) is the second-closest airport. We flew on United Airlines but were able to book our flights through Air Canada Aeroplan for just 10,000 miles/person each way. I transferred points from American Express Membership Rewards® to Aeroplan to book our flights. Taxes and fees totaled $218.32/person round-trip.

We arranged private transportation from the airport to Numu through the hotel itself. The drive took around 90 minutes and we paid $130 each way (and the driver accepted credit cards). Another popular option is a shuttle through BajioGo.

The Redemption

Numu Boutique Hotel San Miguel de Allende is a category 6 Hyatt hotel. That means award nights range from 21,000-29,000 Hyatt points/night. Our three nights in a standard king room were 25,000 Hyatt points/night (75,000 total). Hyatt does not charge taxes or resort fees on award stays, so we paid $0 out of pocket for our three nights. If traveling with friends or family, you could also select a standard room with two queen beds for the same points rate.

The cash rate for our stay was over $900/night. This is why we transfer a majority of our Chase points to Hyatt—because Hyatt offers such oversized value!

The Hotel

We loved Numu’s location. It’s located on a quiet cobblestone street, but it’s still walking distance to almost all of San Miguel de Allende’s attractions. We walked everywhere, and it never took more than 15-20 minutes. There is a large park with lots of playground equipment about a block from Numu. While the cobblestone streets are not stroller-friendly, San Miguel de Allende as a whole is very family friendly, and I would not hesitate to recommend it to families.

As a boutique hotel, Numu only has 44 rooms and suites. We had a king room located on the top floor. The bathroom had two sinks and a rainfall shower, and there was also a terrace with two chairs that overlooked the hotel’s courtyard and restaurant.

Numu has a heated rooftop pool with spectacular views of the city. We spent one afternoon reading and eating lunch by the pool and enjoyed it very much.

The heated rooftop pool is a great place to unwind.

Numu also has a Bernese mountain dog named Pancho. Pancho may have been my favorite part of the entire experience! He was always there to greet us when we returned from a day of exploring.

The Food

We enjoyed breakfast at Numu’s restaurant, Enrique, each morning. Seating is outdoors in their beautiful courtyard. Mornings were chilly, but they had heaters and also provided blankets. As a Globalist member, breakfast charges were removed from our bill each morning. Even if you don’t have breakfast included, the prices are very reasonable. The San Miguel Style eggs were my favorite—you have to try them!

I will dream about the San Miguel Style eggs.

We also enjoyed dinner on our first night at Numu’s rooftop restaurant, NOIA. We enjoyed NOIA’s Mediterranean-inspired dishes, and the views of San Miguel de Allende at sunset were breathtaking. You’ll notice that many of San Miguel de Allende’s restaurants are open-air or rooftop, and it’s one of the things we loved!

A margarita + chips & guac + stunning sunset views at NOIA = one happy Jess.

We spent one afternoon by the heated rooftop pool and were able to order food to be brought to our loungers. I had the shrimp tacos, and they did not disappoint. Again, Numu’s food prices are very reasonable (they were around $16) given that it’s a luxury boutique hotel.

You can also order room service via WhatsApp. I took advantage of this on more than one occasion. With iced lattes costing just $3.50 and espresso martinis costing around $10, the ability to request them via WhatsApp to enjoy on our balcony was pretty spectacular.

Iced lattes delivered via room service to enjoy on the balcony? Yes, please!

Some other restaurants in San Miguel de Allende that we enjoyed were:

  • KI’BOK Coffee SMA (the best coffee; make sure you enjoy from the rooftop terrace!)
  • Quince Rooftop (fun for dinner + great views; you need a reservation)
  • Chocolates y Churros San Agustín (the BEST churros and worth the wait; Nutella was my favorite)

Bottom Line

For just 10,000 miles/person each way, a couple hundred dollars in taxes and fees, and $0 out of pocket for our hotel, we spent a lovely three nights in San Miguel de Allende. This is the type of trip that’s only made possible by points! We loved Numu Boutique Hotel San Miguel de Allende and would not hesitate to return. Have I convinced you to add San Miguel de Allende to your bucket list?

The most charming city in Mexico!
